I recently received my bottle of La Reine Mauve and it doesn't look anything like your post. Mine looks like a very pale blueberry. I tried adding 10% Noodler's Bulletproof Black, but only succeeded in creating something dull and muddy. Did I get a bad bottle or what?

Hmm. My bottle of La Reine Mauve is a deep, rich, purple that pretty much matches penguinmaster's sample. Maybe you do have a bad bottle.

That's amazing, I had no idea that a new bottle of ink could be that far off!

Any suggestions?

Did you shake it? I know that Noodler's bulletproof black "settles" so that it looks like a pretty crappy grey if you don't shake prior to filling. Noodler's El Lawrence also seperates (so much so that the color gradient is quite visible just looking at the bottle). Perhaps a good shake prior to filling would help.

When talking about the feathering please realize this was done in a pen with a somewhat flexible nib. So well it says a fine nibbed, it flexes probably between fine and medium which accounts for some of the extra width. I'm looking at the original and it really does only have minor feathering.

Maybe it's the paper you're using. Flexible nibs tend to gush more ink in one spot, but if the thin line feathers, then it's either the ink, paper, or both. For instance, I've tried Bay State Concord Grape on Clairefontaine Triomphe paper, and it feathered like crazy, where other inks didn't.

Maybe this La Reine Mauve is in the same catagory as the Bay State inks.

I'm sure it has a bit to do with the paper, as I indicated on the review, it did not feather on the copy paper. But a close look at the actual review on paper shows that the feathering on most of it is minor, the majority of the place it feathers is in the thicker lines, the thin lines mostly do not.

Not arguing, just giving more information.

Has anyone tried La Reine Mauve on paper from a Black n' Red spiral notebook? How did it look compared to the example above?

Thanks,

Bob

My rating of your scan accuracy: just about perfect. Very nice! I look forward to getting to know this ink.

I just got some LRM and really like it. It works very nicely in my VP stub - makes it quite a bit smoother than the MB Racing Green I had been using in it. I had been expecting some chalkiness as Polar Black has that, but I guess it's the freezeproof-ness of it and not the bulletproof-ness that does that because I've experienced nothing of the kind with LRM.

Purple (my favorite color) and bulletproof - two great tastes that taste great together.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
