New Diamine WES Imperial Blue

I saw it on thewritingdesk.co.uk - looks fantastic as a smear... has anyone tried it, and is this a writing desk exclusive? I have not seen it elsewhere or read any reviews.

What I am about to write may seem a little biased but I am really pleased that the WES Council has allowed Diamine to release this ink for general sale (although I am also a member of the WES Council I abstained from any discussion regarding this matter).

Diamine initially made a limited batch of Imperial Blue for the Writing Equipment Society as part of the Society's 25th birthday celebrations. Bottles from this batch bear a special anniversary silver label. Since buying a bottle for myself at the AGM in 2005 it's become my favourite blue ink. I therefore asked Christine at Diamine whether I could get some for The Writing Desk to sell and was told catagorically NO as this ink effectively "belonged" to the WES. Anyway, the rest of the WES Council decided that it would be good publicity to allow Diamine to produce the ink for general sale and these bottles carry a blue label to distinguish them from the main Diamine range. So, Eric, to answer your question it is not exclusive to TWD but we may have been first to get it :).

The colour itself is a deep blue with strong purple overtones. A bit like Aurora blue on steroids you might say. In a dry-ish pen the purple seems to show more, in a wet writer it's more blue but the purple adds to its richness.

Figures. I went to Pear Tree, and he doesn't list it. Can't wait for it to cross the pond! ;)

We only got our stock at the end of last month so it may be a while before it filters through.

How does the color compare to Penman Sapphire?

Obviously, I don't know  but I suspect from the description that this new Diamine colour will be very different to Penman Sapphire - since Sapphire has no purple.

Of course, addicted as I am to Sapphire, I also love Diamine inks (even the black, which I was not keen on at first as it is not as intense as some blacks) and so it looks like I ought to get this new colour too

I love the names - Prussian Blue, Imperial Purple, Monaco Red, and now Imperial Blue.

OK, I like the idea of the purple undertones...

How would you compare it to Noodler La Couleur Royale, especially as to flow and wetness.

I have compared the new Diamine WES Imperial Blue with two other inks.

It does compare indeed very close to Aurora Blue.

This is what I think:

* Aurora Blue - Diamine WES is just slightly darker and a little thinner in flow.

* Penman Sapphire Blue - Diamine WES is much lighter and less saturated.

I have polled before my winter inks here on the fpn and included Diamine WES in this small collection.

Keep writing.

Keep doing it and doing it.

Even in the moments when it's so hurtful to think about writing.

I have just ordered some of this ink (Diamine WES Imperial Blue - along with "Umber") and it will be my first experience of Diamine inks. I like a blue to be quite vibrant. I also hope it is a non fading ink. Am I to be dissapointed??

I've been using Diamine Imperial Blue -- I assume it's the same as WES Imperial Blue -- all week. It's plenty vibrant by my standards, and respectably water-resistant. Have not lived with it long enough to talk about fading vel non -- but I can still read things I wrote a few days ago. :D Will you be disappointed? What's your personality type: glass half-full or half-empty? If half-full, you definitely won't be disappointed. If half-empty, you won't be bitterly disappointed. ;)

Thanks - and I like your humour!! My glass is half full and half empty at the same time. But if it is red wine I prefer it to be absolutely full!!

I've just received the two inks I ordered and I'm very pleased with both. Rather unusual and exotic inks, and the "Umber" reminds me of good old English ditchwater!! It's a stunning green, although it tends to bleed through some papers. The blue is lovely too, and I think I might eventually get more of this manuafacturer's ink.

I will probably use the Imperial Blue as my standard ink, both at home and at work. (I use Yard-o-Led blue at work at present, which is very nice and very professional looking, but once that small bottle runs out ...)

Ah, so you're a mathematician...

But if it is red wine I prefer it to be absolutely full!!

And a philosopher as well! :D

Enjoy your inks! :happyberet:

Shostas,

Interesting that you currently use Yard O Led ink. You may or may not know that it is actually Diamine ink. So you now have two Diamine blues!

Best wishes

Will

You know that does ring a bell!

Also, I have noticed that the Y o Led is identical in colour and flow.

The Yard-o-Led comes in a small bottle (30ml?) whereas the Diamine is 80ml - which is probably better value.

Best wishes

This reminds me of a true story when I was on a Greek Island (I think it was Samos) where rather a long time ago Pythagorus invented a drinking vessel that would empty out if it was filled to over a certain point. This was to deter his students from drinking too much wine at lunchtime and fall asleep during his lectures. They had these for sale and they certainly worked, although we only tested them using water!! (Can't waste good wine ... or good ink).

Absolutely full? Then you must be dreading the taste!

Yours frivolously,

Tom

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
