Faber-Castell Mondoro

Yesterday we did the review to the faber-castell pen Mondoro, new model of the German mark for 2009.

The first thing to note in its distinctive design (as with GVFC Intuition)

Your body is made of black resin and has hexagonal shape, its size is 128mm and weighs 25.7 grams empty

These are some pictures

nice pics. $135 usd is the list price.

I noticed that even the usual online stores don't discount this pen. Is this SOP with Faber-Castell pricing?

The lowest price that I found was $105.00+shipping. Not that a 30% off list price is bad, but I could only find this price at Melpens.com.

Not that Melpens is bad either, but considering the ever-so-slight discount (after shipping cost), I would rather spend the money in a local B&M.

I usually don't go looking at Faber pens; even though the ones have I tested have always been perfect, the prices have always been 2-5x my range.

Nevertheless, after this pictorial review and considering the list price of the Faber-Castell Mondoro, I think I will take a look see.

Thank you for the wonderful photography.

the nib looks like my coconut wood ambition nib

In the days gone by, people believed that if a person touched an object, that object would form a bond with a part of their soul.

Today such a thought seems almost absurd....Until you enter the realm of Montblanc's master craftsmen.

Sorry, but I find Faber Castelle writing instruments one of the most consistantly ugly designs in the big company products market. This one is just plain ugly. I really think they ought to hire an outside designer, maybe the out of work folks in New Haven.

YMMV

I just picked up one of these and I like it a lot. It writes very smoothly, good diameter for comfort in a variety of grips and unlike some, this is the kind of design that appeals to me. Thank you for the photos. They pointed up some stylish details that I hadn't noticed.

I like it. Its very.... architectural somehow.

Though I think for the price the nib could have been better. I have a FB (that cost only $65) with the same nib.

i like thick design due to my hand size. since i first saw it in a window display a few month back. just brought it a few days back. this is good on a functional point of view.

Pen design is a very personal thing. I would not pay 50 cents for pens that other people consider "design masterpieces" IMHO they are only "ugly pens". I like the Ondoro design, I consider it a reinterpretation of a classic FP style. And it is very functional, indeed, the pen does not roll from the desk. Under the bonnet, the Ondoro is an Ambition, the nib and feeding sections are identical.

I love my Ondoro with very smooth B nib. It is a luscious orange Creamsicle. very good fit in my hand.

Now if i could only learn to not try to twist the cap off!

Cheers,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
