Noodler's Walnut

There are already 2 reviews for this ink I believe, but I always like looking at multiple reviews myself. Helps get a better feel for the color/properties, and one reviewer might have caught something you missed about the ink, or vice versa. Anyway. Here we are:

As always, reviews can be seen on my LJ. Hope this helped, fellow ink-lovers :D

PS -- as always, excuse the doodles. That's just me being me :roflmho:

Thank you for a very enjoyable review.

Walnut is my daily ink for work. The colour of your scan is spot on to my eye. I use it in a Safari Fine nib and it appears a touch blacker because of the finer line, I also don't have any problems with feathering on poorer quality paper, probably because of the fine nib.

Very nice review (and fun to read as well). Thanks.

This is a serious brown ink; it's ready to do business. One of my favorites.

Love Noodler's Walnut -- but it does look considerably lighter in some nibs. I will try to scan a sample of what it looks like in my M nib Montblanc Schiller; you might be surprised!

Great doodles!

Hey, and the review wasn't bad either...

... as though I hadn't enough inks to try out already

... so keep 'em coming, doodles and all!

Tom, who is was looking for a Pelikan M620 San Francisco...

But, hey, an Athens or a Shanghai would be nice!

No need to excuse your doodles. I really like them.

I was wondering if someone could describe the similarities and differences between Noodler's Walnut and Noodler's Polar Brown... maybe even a scan showing them side-by-side.

I like Walnut quite a bit, but I really like brown, too.

Thanks for a great review. I have considered buying this ink, but I think I might have got almost the same colour in my recent brown-black blend.

Thanks for the GREAT review. I've been sniffing around Walnut and now you've sold me. I usually use PR Black Cherry, but now I'll try this one. Really looking forward to your review of Starry Night.

But that's my favorite part! Great review, you've really done a nice job of covering all the bases.

This ink is one of the few on my 'to buy' list. (I've already got an ink closet full of 150 bottles.) I agree that it is a bit lighter in broader nibs, though of course everything is. The really cool thing is that it's listed as "near bulletproof" in FPN's Waterproof Ink section, yet it's only about 1/2 the price of Noodler's Eternal Brown inks.

I wonder how close the color is to those inks made from actual walnuts?

Heh. Sometime when the walnuts are falling from a tree (wherever you live), pick up some of the husks and shells to run tests. Pretty potent dye source, actually...

Excellent review. I've had a bottle of this sitting in the drawer for almost a year. I used it once, then put it away. Your review piqued my interest and I loaded a Safari w/1.1 mm Italic nib with it. It looks spectacular on an Arttec (Australian-made) calligraphy pad (Champagne Gold), which I've been using only for the last few months. A splendid combination! Thank you for doing this review!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
