Pilot ミュー90 (Myu-90) Cursive Italic

Dillo

Hi,

One of my good customers sent me a ミュー90 to regrind to cursive italic. I thought you might be interested in looking at the pictures of the insides of the pen.

Such a large feed!

I finished the nib and put it all back together. It writes beautifully now!

After taking this pen apart, I can see the care that Pilot took. It's just as beautiful inside as it is outside. My own ミュー90 is not ground since I prefer the standard Pilot fine nib :D

Very nice work, Dillon (as usual). Thanks for the photos of the pen disassembled. Very interesting, so much so that I actually waiting for my super-slow-mo dial-up to load it. It was worth the wait. :)

Nice work, but I'm like you Dillon the Pilot/Namiki nibs I have are just sweet right out the box. Happy New Year.

Yes, actually, thanks!

First, this makes me want to get a medium and have it ground similarly. I love my Myu 90's XXF point (it is marked F but man, it is finer than anything but the XXXF Binder VP nib my wife has, I think it even beats my Prera). For a random goob (e.g. me) what would a cursive italic job run?

Question: The circular ring that holds the cap in place, although stronger holding than my wife's Myu 701, isn't as strong as I'd like. Do you think I could get it to hold a bit more firmly by slightly adjusting the ring (spring)?

Would that be seriously courting disaster?

Hi,

The ring can't be really made any tighter because it actually doesn't rely on spring tension to hold the cap on. It snaps into a groove at the cap edge. It's a nice system :D

Pretty pictures!

Would you mind if you could show us a writing sample on how it writes? It might be quite nice to see.

Beautiful pics of the inner workings of this pen! I find myself deeply admiring its purity. Pilot really did this 90th Anniversary pen right.

Very cool. It sure looks true to the original- it would be interesting to compare that to a MYU ...

Anyway - any white knuckles with this one since, unlike say a Parker 75, if you don't get it right you've got to replace the entire front end of the pen? ;)

A pen a day keeps the doctor away...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
