Pen Kimonos- A Group Shot

Recommended Posts

My pens are usually large sized, and I had to ask them to make it even larger. They will fit any pens as long as it is not Nakaya cigar model or Namiki Emperor.

The pen I will be having is 165mm in length.

then their pen wraps and pouches are perfect for you. enjoy them. i'm getting envious.

very nice indeed. you just made me think about getting another pen wrap from them. who knows? maybe they can make the pen slot slightly smaller for me, 'cause i sure love their handwork.

Well, it's nice. But why get another of the same type?

Shouldn't you try some variety?

Not saying that they are bad. I'd like to collect all their designs. But that will take a lot of time since I don't buy pens too often.

Edit: Hey, where are the pictures of your first pen wrap?

It doesn't seem very protective, however, it's more than beautiful to enjoy.

I have one came with Nakaya but I wouldn't mind to pay some extra for better kimono case.

Thanks all.

Hard luck though, it's going back. If you can see the longer pen in picture, it's almost at the flap which covers the pens. The pen is 15cms in length and I specified that I need a pen wrap which can hold 165mm long pens.

They have given me 2 options:

1. They will transfer back $30 and I get to keep the case.

2. I send it back to them at my cost and they will make a new one. The shipping cost I will pay will be refunded via PayPal.

Now, it's going to take another 45 days to get the new one once I send this. FML.

Edit: They admitted that the didn't make it to my specifications.

I have one of Andy Lambrou's elongated custom KofP, as well as an ironwood Platinum Izumo, each of which is about 17 cm long, as is a Nakaya long cigar that I'm thinking about having made. I wrote to Chan's Handmade today to see if he can make me one of these beauties to accommodate them.

I think Izumo maxes out at 165mm, no clue about KOP. Long Cigar is 174mm.

The design matters a lot, the case cannot be made bigger than the pattern. Like my Sakura rain pattern, the case cannot be made for pens longer than 170mm.

The ironwood Izumo actually is a few mm longer than the Tamenuri ones. According to the table on nibs.com, the Nakaya Long Cigar measures 16.84 cm closed.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
