How do I re"set" a loose clip

Recommended Posts

A search shows not alot of info on this (that I could find) with one poster saying

the inner cap has to come out to reset the rivet. Is that REALLY necessary?

This clip was almost a "spinner" and for grins, I used my fingers to just REALLY push

the jewel into the cap and that helped but it's still not tight like I'd like.

Help please and thanks,

Probably better ways will come from collectors - but for a user pen, you can wrap a thin bit of thread, floss or very fine fish line in the crevice between clip ring and cap. One wrap and that shored mine up. I've read a discrete spot of glue works too.

I made a tool on my lathe that works like an anvil to re-peen the rivet, but you have to get the jewel out without damage. Sometimes this is easy if the inner cap comes out, but not always. If you can remove the jewel, you can use a little lock-tite between the clip and rivet if it is not too loose.

As mentioned--the inner cap has got to come out so you can remove the jewel and go after the rivet.

Not to bad if you have a puller. A mess if you don't.

Various colored and or weight mono fish line, tie a good fishing knot, poke it up in the upper bar of the cap of the clip and take a hot needle and melt it.

I have not tried it, but will everything else is too dangerous to the pen, and too much work.

If only one could read...some one already said fishing line...sorry.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
