Omas Paragon Test Set

Hi

today I want to show my Omas Paragon old style test set fountain pen.

This box is really a rare set which includes allmost all nib grades which you can get from Omas.

The body is made out of black precious resin and with gold trims.

The box includes a cleaning towl, a bottle of ink, a bottle of cleaning water and 15 nib grades.

Eleven nibs from EF to Stub are made out of 18ct single tone gold nibs.

Four nibs are made out of 14ct. These nibs are extra flexible.

This pen is a very wet noodle and that is a pleasure.

There are two possible ways to use this fountain pen:

1.- You can screw in the nibs and use it as a dip pen.

or

2.- You can seal the back end and the section with silicon grease

and than you have an Omas eyedropper which holds a massive of ink.

Even when all sections are closed at the end they still got breather holes.

I used it as an eyedropper as you can mention.

Actually I have been a little bit clumsy and screwed the 14ct M nib to tight on the barrel to get it off again.

So I used a towl and tool and than it happend ... oh no ... I have been really carefully but ... #!?% happens.

In general Omas fountain pen nibs are very smooth and all nibs are so.

I included some pictures I hope you enjoy them.

Thanks for reading.

Sascha

Wow! What a brilliant set.

I have noticed that Omas stubs seemed to be quite a lot narrower than other stubs that I have seen.

I believe the 14K nibs are the Extra Flessible in F, M and B widths.

Hi,

looking at your pen, it seems to me that the body and filling mechanism are almost complete, the only part which appears to be missing is the piston shaft ending with the plastic seal.

If you are able to find that shaft you could use the pen as piston filler, having only the problem of resealing the section when you change the nib.

Anyway your set is very nice, the possibility to try all those Omas nib is very attractive.

Ciao

Alfredo

outstanding  thanks for sharing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
