Excellent review of an excellent pen, georges!

I had one exactly like this a few years ago and made the mistake of selling it....this year found a nice bamboo black/green one....beautifully designed and well made pens with a super nib.....

Indeed some flex.

 

From the swirls you make I can't discern which linevariation is from flex and which from being stubbish.

 

What is the weight of this pen?

Great review George. Like you I've always been tempted but dissuaded by the high price. I've also never tried a sterling section so wonder how I'd get on with it. But the pen is a great looker, maybe one day ...

You should look for one in second hand or ask bryant from pentime.net if he can get you one

It is not what I would call a lightweight pen but it is not a heavy weight either. I haven't weighted the pen to be honest with you

Thanks for the review. I have one of the older 1930s in Parchment--basically white. It is an impressive-looking pen and always attracts attention. It has a smooth fine nib and I like the piston filler. While it is expensive, you get a lot of pen for the money.

Montegrappa 1930 review

 

Look for the makers mark, it should end in either VI or MI. If VI it was pre-Richmont, if MI it is Richemont era.

Just got out my loupe to check. There is a "VI" in the silver around the base of the cap, so I guess that it is pre-Richemont. I have to defer to "JAR" on the maker's mark, he almost has me convinced to buy a Yard-O-Led Grand Viceroy Victorian!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
