Here is my review of the subtle-but-gorgeous *big breath* Akkerman Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indigo. I LOVE this ink, and now I just have to find a reputable and affordable place to get it… :hmm1: Special thanks to member amberleadavis for sending me a gaggle of Akkerman inks to review!

Great review! Makes me want to fire off an order to the Netherlands. I have always liked the bottles anyway. You have very nice handwriting, too!

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Great review, as ever and I'll keep my eyes open for a way of getting some of this without breaking the bank in duty and so on. One of my favourite colours too.

Thanks for the review. I love this colour. Somewhere between their iron-gall number, R&K's Blau-Schwarz and D's Eclipse. My worn-out jeans look a lot more faded, dirty and torn. But I think I'll still buy a bottle of this ink instead.

Thanks for another great review. If Akkerman is supposedly rebottled Diamine, which Diamine ink is this - Registrars?

To be honest, this ink does look a bit like slightly diluted Prussian Blue… :hmm1:

I'll second that (Diamine's Prussian Blue). As far as I make it, the rebottled Registrar's is Akkerman's iron-gall blue-black. For a comparison see my review of this ink.

I could have sworn that I already posted a scan of two paper chromatographies to show this (using blotting paper and either water or a water:isopropanol 1:1 mix). A = Akkerman's iron-gall, D = Diamine's iron-gall. Duh!

Thanks for the reminder. I guess I should shoot that thing off to the above-mentioned site itself as well.

But... I still find that the Akkerman version is wetter, i.e. writes with a better flow. It may contain a secret ingredient in the form of a detergent/tenside/lubricant which you don't see in these chromatograms.

Great Review, Thanks!

Nice Color, they do have quite an array of blues. Would be cool to see them all scanned together with some reference blues (Noodler's, Aurora, Eclat d Saphir, PR American etc) but I doubt there are too many who have all of them.

Thanks for your review which helps me to choose this faded dark blue color that I like very much

I'm glad that it's not as dark as I'd expected and there is some nice shading too.

Yesterday I was in The Hague and I've been wanting to buy a bottle of Akkerman Inks for a long time.

Some days ago I looked into the inks that Akkerman sells - and stumbled across this topic.

Thanks for the review! You convinced me to buy this ink! I am now a proud owner of Akkerman #9 - Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indigo!

I have to add that, after trying out the ink, I LOVE THIS COLOR!

It is a really nice ink!

The downside is that it doesn't attract attention. It is quite a subtle ink, perfect for everyday use, as long as you don't use it to get attention. Example: when correcting exams, I wouldn't use this ink, even for myself, when counting the points the student scored I'm afraid I wouldn't notice the number of points in front of the answer.

I tried it in one of the more wet pens I have (Waterman Apostrophe fine nib). Perhaps I should use it in a pen with somewhat a broader nib.

But, oh boy this is one beauty of an ink!

Much-belated thanks for your review, mhphoto.

Just got this last Friday along with a Pilot Vanishing Point F. I like it. It works well on regular papers, dries quickly, even on Rhodia, and even shades a bit from that nib. And I rather like the subtle color. Right now, it's primarily used to work on logic puzzles, and write in my bullet journal - where the off-white paper actually makes it look more blue than white paper (not sure how that happens, but whatever). :) I plan to buy a bottle whenever Anderson Pens get it back in stock (tried it exclusively in hopes of justifying purchase of an Akkerman bottle  ).

In my tests, it has a bit of water resistance. Not sure if it fades - haven't had it long enough to test that. Ah, but I see amberleadavis has done such and it held up well (see here).

I think this is destined to become my (regular & bullet) journaling ink and pen. Though I may have to try the ink in my Waterman Laureat F - I suspect it'll look quite nice there too. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
