De Atramentis Christmas Ink Red

Sorry for the hand writing. I need a flexi nib for these ink tests as it slows me down and makes my handwriting look so much better. New noodlers? ;) Anyway. The ink review! Bought this on a lark, mostly because the idea of scented ink was interesting to me. Nice ink, shading would have been fun, and the scent is NOT strong once in the pen, but still fun and I enjoy the color enough I have no regrets! Got it from Goulet Pens (no affiliation except that my husband is going to black that IP address when he sees the CC bill!) ;)

That looks like a nice color. Have you got any clue as to what basic (i.e., what generic, non-scented, De Atramentis ink color) it is?

I got a sample a while back of De Atramentis Black Roses. If you stick your nose right up to the open vial, you can get a nice whiff of the rose scent (and it's a *nice* scent: it smells the way some heirloom roses smell -- as opposed to cheap commercial rose perfume, which is often fairly nasty); but sadly, it doesn't seem to translate to either the pen or the paper too well,

The bottle says Color: Red. Which isn't really terribly helpful.

Not sure if it is just a scented version of one of their regular colors, or really its own color. Sorry!

I haven't yet. When my Noodler's runs dry I'll fill with this and try it in that flex nib. Most of my nibs are F as my handwriting tends to be fairly small and I prefer fine nibs.

I've been eyeing those inks. I kept wondering what "Christmas" smells like though and have been holding off. But after seeing this review I might order one.

Forgot to upload the photo.

But this ink is NOT terribly Noodler's Creeper friendly. The Creeper tends to railroad badly with it when doing much flexing. But then the NON Noodler's inks I've tried in that pen all railroad pretty badly. So that's probably not a nock against the ink at all.

When it didn't rail road it was quite pretty. Created a bit of a darker edge on the wide strokes. I would definitely use it in an italic nib, have one ocming and will try that. Would make for nice calligraphy in Christmas cards.

Thank you for a great review. Nice bright ink but subtle enough to not jump out at you.

God is my Strength.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
