Parker 45

Evergreen of evergreens: the Parker 45. This one complete in black with a gold nib. This version, but with the steel nib, was my first pen in 1962.

I used a Parker 45 Flighter for much of the time at School, and all of the University years, on a daily basis.

That was in the 1960's. It still writes perfectly.

I picked up a 45 GT Deluxe this summer in an antiques mall -- not mint condition but a sweet writer. Love love love it! That 14K M nib is smooooooth.... :cloud9: And I like that I can do my own maintenance on it easily (thanks to a video link that someone on the Parker Forum steered me to when I was posting photos and asking for information).

Right now, I'm taking the easy route and just refilling it with Quink Black, and trying to decide what other inks would go well in it.

A true classic pen....I have a half-dozen or more and very often give them away to folks wanting to try out a fountain pen.

A SS Flighter 45 with gold trim was my only FP for awhile in the late 90s and it had a very smooth nib!

A black 45 and a flighter 45 are in my permanent rotation, I think I have 14 of them at last count. Great pens that are underrated, to bad Parker stopped making them.

I've just purchased my 4th Parker 45. I wish I still had my original 45 but the examples I have now are just as great.

45 looks great in black. I own burgundy and flighter versions. You have got an interesting ξ in your greek letters :)

Gorgeous.

I had a stainless steel 45 ballpoint - my favorite ballpoint ever. Alas it got lost. :(

Perhaps I will have an opportunity to acquire a 45 FP someday.

45s rock! Smooth and reliable. I love all of mine! I hope they stay under rated and under appreciated! (That way I can always get more, CHEAP!) :roflmho:

Yes indeed, I had the xi the wrong way around. My classic Greek is a bit rusty, it was almost 40 years ago I studied your beautiful language.

Yes, it is a bit inverted, but still easily recognizable and quite elegant.

I have been using one of my burgundy 45's for the last couple of weeks in the office, and noticed that it does not dry easily if left uncapped. I guess this is one of the not so obvious features of the pen, it is the semi hooded nib that makes all the difference.

Great pen.

I bought mine in 1973, still use it.

It is a SS with golden trim and steel nib, Richard Binder made a lovely Itali-Fine that has a good line variation.

Always on a Skrip Brown diet, it was the only ink color other that black and blue that I could get in my neck of the woods, now not even that, only black and brown.

I have to go to Mexico City for inks.

All the best,

Gilberto

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
