Diamine Royal Blue

I rediscovered this ink a few days ago, long abandoned at the back of my ink drawer, and thought it deserved more recognition than it gets around here. Its a pleasant, well behaved sky blue, difficult to capture digiatally, so a lot of fiddling in camera and photoshop was necessary to approximate the actual color in a photo, resulting in a not so white background. The first probably captures it best.

Oh, a review of my go-to ink! Thanks a lot. Not to be confused with Diamine's Imperial blue when reordering. I agree with Dan that their "Royal" blue doesn't have purple tones through it. I get more shading variety with certain nibs than others.

Nice review. IMO also one of the few "true" blues. No purple, no green. Well-behaved, inexpensive, and also easily available everywhere (I think). Also, this is Richard's "best" blue -- alongside the Photoshop Blue in his signature -- so it has to be a good blue.

Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure why this one is oft overlooked. It's a nice change from some of the more intense blues.

Found this ink by accident - great shading from a lovely soft blue - and I'm not normally a fan of blue inks. I love it.

I have a bottle from a few years ago, and it feathers badly on cheaper paper. Perhaps it has been improved, since you report no feathering.

 

I do agree that it is a lovely color.

According to the Diamine Website, this is an ink used to sign international treaties. I like this shade of blue and if it's good enough for Presidents, I think I should give it a try.
