I tried a new Akkerman ink and absolutely HATED it. I wanted to spruce it up a bit, and thought that the high saturation of PR Avocado would help. Knowing that the darker inks tend to overpower the lighter ones, I went easy on the Avocado content. Shockingly the Akkerman totally overpowered the Private Reserve. The ink came out looking and acting like all the things I hated about the Akkerman. To me, this was a total failed attempt.

Thanks for sharing! I like the color on my monitor. Moderate shading? Seriously? Here, on my monitor, it seems an impressive shading.

On Rhodia dotPad the shading was much better than on Clairefontaine paper. But I gave it a 'moderate' because some words have dramatic shading, while others have none whatsoever. And the areas that have no shading are VERY washed out and bland.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
