Thanks for the review! This is one of my favorite inks. Great for markup, because you can leave it in a pen unused for weeks and then pick the pen up and rock and roll with almost no issues. Great ink.

Thank you - it's a really good red, a bit light for my taste in some pens, but, hey, what do we have different pens for?! :-)

Greetings,

Michael

Thanks for the review. I use Diamine Poppy Red for all the rubrics in our church service registers. :happyberet:

Hi there! You just got me thinking because this is for sure my very most favourite red (I think). After that, Skrip's Red. Actually not quite a "pure" red but with a slight taste of watermelon. Haven't yet tried out a poppy. In any case I see no blue on paper. Maybe it's my monitor. So, I just thought I'd check that out. Here's my scan on a piece of Rhodia.

Honestly, if you were a blacksmith, would you really forge a poor ol' poppy? I think I just did! E.g. the letters "I", "m" and "f" in "I am forged" have quite a bit of magenta/blue in them.

Oh well... at least I'm honest...

You are so right, there is a kiss, a hint, an insinuation of magenta about Poppy but I only find it when wet and smeared.

Interesting... in that scan, on my monitor, I see quite a tendency toward orange in the lighter strokes. No magenta at all, anywhere.

This was my first red ink. I, too, found it has a hint of orange in it (or perhaps it's just too bright for my taste...) That's why my second red ink is Diamine Classic Red.

I got a bottle, and this is now my grading ink along with Skrip Red. I'm going to have to get some Red Dragon, though. I'm much too much a Sino-phile to pass that up!

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
