Diamine Coral

My scanner couldn't pick up the true color of this beautifully striking ink. I adjusted the settings the best I could, but I will add photos later today with the true color. So please enjoy the review, but know that the actual color is much lighter and much more punchy.

On to the review. I swear, I couldn't write an even sentence without some sort of guideline on the paper if my life depended on it. I'll be ordering some more ink and the same Rhodia pad, but with a dot grid. :D

Very well behaved in all my pens.

And here you can see a bit of shading (which is there, but the color is so light that it's hard to see), and you can also see the gold iridescence sort of haloing around the letters. :puddle:

I'm super curious about how this compares to Iroshizuku Tsutsuji. Maybe I'll see if I can pick up a sample somewhere and do a comparison. Hmmmm ...

Tsutsuji is way, way more pink/magenta than Coral.

Not a color I'd pick for myself, but (from your scans at least) it is very aptly named. I do kinda like the bit of shading/halo effect in the close up you have with the Brause pen and nib.

This reminds me of Fiesta Red; the Fender custom colour that is, not the PR ink. Interesting colour and excellent review.

Thanks very much for your review of this "beautifully striking" & electrifying ink!

I have a 30ml bottle from a few months ago, trying to chase away the London winter gloom.

The swabs on the Diamine/Goulet/TWD websites are pretty close. I was hoping for a soft cantaloupe colour with a bit of pink, but it was more of a pink with hints of orange.

More like a hot, searing-your-retinas orangey-pink. Think fluorescent highlighter. Diamine Coral is made for the Preppy highlighter/marker.

I like the colour, the ink is well-behaved, but wow! It is striking!

I can use it for editing/markup and possibly short notes of a few sentences. I look at this ink, and I am (almost) so distracted, I can hardly read what has been written.

I tried scanning my sample for comparison, but I couldn't even get close. (*edit - Your photos below are spot-on.)

Perhaps I can use it as a foil to my usual blue-blacks...

Okay, here are some pictures that are more accurate in terms of color rendition.

And here is a close up of the golden iridescence. :D

Whoa... it's almost like a neon-glowing color! I'll give it a shot I suppose (I ordered some notebooks in a coral color haha) but does anybody know of any inks closer to the color seen in the first few pictures (the ones that had non-representative pictures)?

It really is a neon color in real life; that's a great descriptor! As far as the color in the scans goes, try adding a tiny bit of black ink to some Coral. That's would probably get you something close.

Gorgeous review MH, and I absolutely love the gold halo! Thank you! I was wondering about getting the scan shade as opp to neon, glad you +1 the adding black idea.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
