Platinum Hammered Sterling Silver

The Platinum Hammered Sterling Silver pen came in the great looking wooden box. This box is huge. There is some space for the extra cartridge inks and converter under the upper flap inside the box. Great presentation box for this pen. The pen came with a Platinum converter.

Now to the pen. A very distinct looking sterling silver body. Plantinum says this pen is created by the silver artist who is recognized by the govt of Japan. Under light, the body and cap sparkle and reflect light because of the hammered finish. This is a different kind of sparkles I saw from other sterling silver pens.

The nib is made of platinum. My dip test with WM Florida Blue indicates the nib is super smooth medium tip. Platinum M nibs are more toward Western F or EF (for that matter). So, I can write small letters neatly while enjoying a smoother M tip. I also enjoy Platinum's F nibs and I find both tip sizes are very good in their own right.

Here are side by side comparions with other sterling silver pens.

Platinum Pin Stripe Sterling Silver vs Hammered Sterling Silver. The size looks the same.

The gold vs platinum nib. Both nibs are great writers.

There is no issue with holding the pen. I have 2 Pilot Silverns with different patterns along with a MB and another Platinum. Each of those pens has a differnt pattern. The hammered sterling silver's body and cap are very smooth. Actually, I like the look and feel of the pen.

Interesting, but I find, looking at the photos, that I actually prefer the look of the Barley over the hammered silver (the texture -- if not the color -- of the finish reminds me a bit too much of Wendell August Forge hammered aluminum).

YMMV -- but that's the great thing about FPN: I can see what I *don't* like as well as what I'd really want to get, or want to be able to afford someday).

I love the hammered finish. It makes a change (from the predictable MB barley and silver stripe platinum).

Can the cap be posted? If so, does it upset the balance?

Nervous? No, I'm just thinking...

Superb, I love the hammered finish but sadly its way beyond my reach at the moment.

I am curious about the solid Platinum nib, how does it feel as compared to the 18K gold nib on the lined silver pen?

Thanks!

Hari

I don't post my pens; so, I am not sure how it balances. I think the pen can be posted. The pen is well balanced as is without the cap posted.

The platinum nib on this pen is very smooth. I have not yet put those 2 pens into rotation. So I could not write up a thorough review on the writing performance and feel yet. I have several Platinum pens and I appreciate its high quality control, compared to other brands.

Beautiful! Recently got hold of a Platinum President myself -my first Japanese pen. The nibs are definitely worth all the hype...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
