11 2 20 - Blue Inks

Sandy1

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As more Blue inks are reviewed, I intend to retain some common ground with the One Of The Ten series of Blue ink Reviews.

Unlike the OOTT series, (Summary) , a more diverse range of pens was used for 11 2 20. Consequently, the NIB-ism samples are much less a constant comparative device, and more of a 'representative array' of how an ink might appear from a group of typical pens, though there are some Jokers in the deck. The pens used for each Review are listed below.

Also included are my Personal Pen & Paper Picks from each Review. Those show what I like to see from a given ink, so clearly those are for demonstration, not comparison.

Entries are sorted alphabetically by brand then name.

As ever, if you feel the need for a separate comparison, please do not hesitate to send a PM. Scans from existing material can often be done as time and tides permit. Requests requiring even more written material are not likely to be undertaken, but do ask.

Bye,

S1

Hi,

I'm just popping up to add my name to the list of Fanboys of your review work.

Well, that, and to lament once more the withdrawal of PPS.

I've been looking through as many reviews as I can to try to identify a blue that I can use instead of it. Your previous blue comparisons thread (One Of The Ten Blue Inks) gave me a couple of ideas, so I read this one in the hope of finding some more - only to find myself bewitched once again by the siren song of PPS.

I suppose that one never forgets one's first True Love, eh? [sigh]

Anyway, now that I have got my pining out of the way, I salute your peerless reviews. Truly, you are worthy of laudation

:notworthy1:

Cheers,

M

P.S. Whilst you are unquestionably right to say that 'Majik' resideth in the eye of the beholder, to my mind it simply must be a truth universally acknowledged that PPS has (had?) it in bucketloads.

Foul in clear conditions, but handsome in the fog.

Hi,

Many thanks for your kind words!

I'm glad that you've had a few ideas after reading the OOTT Summary. I also hope that your reading extends to the relevant Reviews: there is much more to an ink than its colour.

PPS was my fourth ink, chosen to pair with the gift of a new Duofold. So if there is any curiosity as to how my appreciation of ink started, that would be the instance.

Do not despair, from time to time a hoard of PPS comes to market, and the Majik remains in the old bottles & cartridges.

Thank you so much Sandy!

The beloved Waterman Florida Blue is going the way of the dodo and I was anxiously looking for a replacement.

Your scanned lines and writing samples have been of tremendous help.

I already found two if not three possible replacements.

Thank you. I found this very informative.

Sandy,

Your reviews are not only comprehensive (understatement), they are highly useful and your sense of humor adds a nice spice to the work at hand. My point: I'm ever ready for your next ink review! Thanks.

From the office of Mr Blue-black.

Excellent overview. Many thanks. It made me realize that I don't miss Penman Sapphire as much as I thought.

Hi,

You're welcome!

Ah, Penman Sapphire - its full character cannot be conveyed from a scan on a monitor: one must see it in person to a far greater extent than many other inks. I do not use it so often, but when I do it is always impressive. But maybe that's just me_._._._

Hi,

It certainly is gorgeous!

At time of writing, Member paperskater has samples of PPS on offer in the Classifieds, so that is a rare chance to see for one's self what this ink is like. However, wee samples may trigger the onset of endless yearning for more of the elixir, so be forewarned!

Even though it was discontinued years ago, the ink has proven to be in excellent condition.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
