Diamine Ancient Copper Review

Here's a scan of my review of Diamine Ancient Copper. It's a beautiful color. I wrote the review with an old Panache italic fine calligraphy pen and a Hero 266. The color looks more intensely orange in the scan than in reality. It is very close to Magic Color Rust, though not quite as waterproof. I was delighted this ink did have some water resistance-- the ink ran while pouring water on it, but it was still legible. My only complaint was the price... it was rather high for such a tiny 30 ml bottle.

Thanks for the review. I love dark orange inks and knew I could rely on someone here to review it. Price isn't even an objection for me because I only buy samples--I have ink ADD!

Nice review Fiberdrunk. Where did you get the 30ml bottle? The Goulets have the 80ml glass ones.

I got mine from Nordic Pen Imports, which is cheaper than anywhere else for this particular ink (free shipping too). But man, ink prices in general are really going up.

Thanks for the review, it does look reddish from these scans. But I'll assume it's closer to rusted steel in color. I have no idea why they'd call this ink Ancient Copper, as an architect, ancient copper is green to me...

Thanks again for the review.

Good point! It is, however, possible to put a reddish patina on copper. I've seen it on a lot of Japanese sword fittings. I can't wait for Goulet Pens to get this back in stock so I can compare it to MB Carlo Collodi brown. They look similiar but I'm betting the Diamine has better writing qualities, not that the MB is bad though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
