This ink was sent to me for review by the good folks at Diamine Ink Co. I am not otherwise affiliated with them.

My very favorite purple. Perfect balance of red and blue IMHO. It looks a little darker with my pens and paper than it does in the scan, but still vivid.

Let there be light. Then let there be a cat, a cocktail, and a good book.

It's the first purple I've used without regrets. My only problem with it so far is that it has darkened a bit the section of a grey Parker 51. It isn't that bad so I haven't checked yet if it can be cleaned.

I love this colour. I have it in a wet broad nibbed pen and the colour is really rich.

Diamine Imperial Purple was my favourite ink for a long time. Then I discovered MB Lavender Purple. I still haven't decided which of the two I prefere, as PR DC Super Violet has come along supplanted both. I also found Imperial Purple to be an extremely well behaved ink, and never got any staining in my pens or converters. Dizzy's comparision of Imperial Purple and Super Violet exactly matches my impressions of these ink, though I've yet to do a side by side comparison of them.

EDIT: in my experience both Imperial Purple and Super Violet are darker than in Dizzy's scans, and I've found Imperial Purple to be the darker of the two; however, this may be an artifact of having used Imperial Purple mostly with wet EF nibs.

This looks a nice ink. I really like their Imperial Blue which has just the right of purple 'tinge' to it to make it interesting. There's quite a difference in the visual result of it depending on the colour of the paper being used though - more purple shows up on ivory (like Moleskine/1917) papers though as opposed to really white like Clairefontaine.

Thanks for the comments on the scans!

I got a new monitor recently, and I'm trying to get everything calibrated correctly. I thought I had it, but I might need to fiddle with it a bit more. :hmm1:

Thanks for another of your great reviews. I've just got a Goulet Pen sample of this colour and can hardly wait to try it out.

is there more shading than the picture shows?

that's quite an animated color, which for some reason i'm a fan of purple in general

I like it lots, too.

Ondina said she'd experienced some staining with it, but I can't say that I have...I tend to put it in black or dark blue pens, and I don't worry about converters' being stained.

Just thinking, there aren't many purple pens around, are there?

Do you have a side by side with the new PR SS violet?

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I wonder if anyone else has experienced any issues with Diamine Imperial Purple? I've been using it in my Cross Apogee and found to dry on the nib and in the feed quite quickly, causing some dry starting and skipping problems. I flushed it out and swapped to Cross Blue, which I've found to have none of these issues, though I don't find it anywhere near as easy on the eye! Anyone had similar issues?

It's been a while since I used Imperial Purple, but I seem to remember it was a bit troublesome in one of my pens, e.g. missing the initial downstroke if left uncapped for a minute or so. Sorry I can't be more specific - I just grabbed a bottle of Waterman Purple and moved on with life! Imperial P is a nice colour though. Maybe I'll give it another go.

It's not just you. I've got some in my Lamy Studio, and it often is a little hard to start and doesn't always complete the downstroke. It's a shame because it's a great colour and matches my pen beautifully. I'm wondering if I should dilute it a little to make it flow better.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
