"Ahoi, good people of FPN!

After nearly a month since I picked up the last unit on my nearest MB boutique, I'm inking my Mark Twain.

I've decided to use MB 'Love Letter' because it was my first ink bottle, so it is a silly tradition I like to keep.

This is a M nib!

I left the pen to have a nib exchange to an Oblique M, however, the boutique manager told me the turnaround time would be of 18 months!!! And it took them a whole month to tell me this, can you believe it?

Needless to say, I'm very hapy to have stuck with the original size... One can never go wrong with the M girls. ;)"

"In terms of writing capabilities, Mr. Twain surpassed my expectations: it is a light pen when uncapped, with a nice, slim section without the textures of waves that run on the barrel. This makes it comfortable to hold, and I could easily go through several pages before feeling tired!

The M nib on this pen is a tad broadder than I was imagining. Since I got used to the Classique's 14k nib, I can tell the difference right away: Mr. Twain is harder on the paper, and yet, runs as smooth as you would expect of a Montblanc.

... The ink flow is generous, and I haven't experienced any skipping.

Since it is a piston-filler without any ink windows, Mr. Twain demands that you quickly get used with it, to feel when it is about to take another plunge on the ink bottle.

There's no dramatic line variation with the Twain-M; it is a solid, consistent writer all the way!"

"I am so happy with this pen!

As a few of you know, I was having doubts wether I should pick Mr. Twain or the boxless, crooked-feed Poe. I am glad I decided to buy this one, because it is a stunning pen in every possible way...

... And I haven't even started to write about its glorious design!! ;)

If you still have the chance to find the Twain anywhere, give it a try!

You'll regret not having this beauty on your collection, or even as a workhorse!

Fondly,

Captain Bertram

P.S.: I wish you could smell this page right now...

 MB Love letter"

Life is like Chinatown signage, its cluttering, confusing but everything that you need is there, just have to look harder....

Yup enjoy. Very nice fountain pen. I think 18 months is wayyy to long. It took me 5 weeks to change my Mark Twain M nib to Mark Twain BB nib. I live in Canada.

It wouldn't take that long, because it was a service they could perform here in Brazil. But they were short on iridium to work on the nib, alas...

Strange how this red ink doesn't look quite as pinkish when you're writing with it as it looks now, seeing those pictures again. :vbg:

Your handwriting is gorgeous! Just a note though - I think that is MB I Love You ink, not the MB Love Letter ink.

The I Love You ink is a lighter colour red and has a much stronger scent.

Thank you! I don't think it's easy to read, as some friends never fail to remark...

And thanks for the correction, you are indeed correct! I tend to mix their names quite often.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
