Now this is an ink that is a must have for everyone! I've wanted this ink for a while, and I was not disappointed when I finally got it. It's a fabulous color, and it's also well behaved too. Prepare you wallet as you read this review. - You may end up buying more than one bottle.

;)

Ink review: Diamine Syrah

Pen and nib: Pelikan M805 with a 777 custom ground B stub

Color: A gorgeous shade of deep, red, burgundy! This is a really pretty color...

Dry time: 20 seconds. Not bad at all, not amazing either.

Smear when dry: NO

Lubrication: Very good, as are most Diamine inks. Very free flowing too!

Shading: This is an odd ink in this respect. It does not have massive amounts of shading... But, there is good shading, and what shading there is, is so gorgeous looking! I love it!

Feathering: Not much at all. On good paper, none. On super-cheap paper, moderate.

Bleedthrough: Very good! Much less than most Diamine inks and my other inks too.

Notes: Overall I really like this ink! The color, shading, and behavior of it have really won me over. I got this as a sample vial but I think I'm going to buy a full bottle when money permits. I highly recommend Diamine Syrah to any fountain pen user! Get a bottle, you won't be disappointed. And if you are, buy some strange chance, I'm certain you won't have trouble selling it off! :)

OUTSTANDING! I have some of this but as yet it's unused. We got it as one my wife would use more than me so I think I'll have to get permission! Also, I've not got a pen free at the moment.

Syrah is lovely. While I mostly use PR Plum, I sometimes switch to Syrah and enjoy it as well.

Thanks for the review.

Oh yes, you must try it out if you've got a bottle sitting around!

Better get writing! The sooner you use up the ink in one of your other pens - the sooner you can use Syrah. :)

I've never tried PR plum, but I'll take a look at it just for fun. I'm not a huge fan of PR inks...

Syrah is indeed lovely. I finally found my burgundy! cloud9.gif

Diamine Syrah is one of my very favorite inks. It is a 2-bottle ink for me (one at work, and one at home).

If you like this ink and want a bit more shading, try Binder Burgundy. And if you like Diamine Syrah, you might want to order Diamine Oxblood at the same time. One of my other very favorite inks.

My ranges are purple-to-burgundy and teal to blue-green, with a little brown to red-brown for variety, my inks all look alike if I'm not in bright light. It isn't quite a rut, but it's getting depressing. :roflmho:

Let there be light. Then let there be a cat, a cocktail, and a good book.

Yes, Diamine Oxblood is very high on my ink sample list. I need to try it soon...

I challenge you to try Noodler's Tienanmen then decide on a favorite

Ooo! A challenge... :) Alright, well, let me first find a bottle of Tienmen, and I'll give you a full review/comparison of the two. Time to go get another sample I suppose! :D

Thanks for the review--the color is fantastic. It looks a bit like the red in Sailor's winter 2010 inks.

Indeed, does it? I haven't checked out any of sailors inks so I'll take you word for it. :)

It sure is fantastic!

When you do your look at Tiananmen, add Diamine Rustic Brown into the shootout too. I reckon that Rustic Brown, Tiananmen and Syrah sit on opposite corners of a very small triangle in the colour space.

+1 to that. This was one of the first bottled inks I tried and it's definitely a keeper. Now I'm coveting this pen to put it in :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
