My New Wax Seal

Judybug

Recommended Posts

Today I managed to use my creme brulee torch and my new unicorn wax seal without burning the house down - an accomplishment for someone like me who is wax seal challenged.

The first time I used a wax seal I nearly burnt the letter up that I was sealing. Who know wax would catch fire again if you hold it close enough! :headsmack:

Good job Judybug. You know you could use a candle to melt the wax? I hope the torch had a stand.

Congratulations!!! :clap1:

I have had some pretty near-miss disasters, eg. burning the entire letter, dripping wax everywhere except on the spot that is required, burning my desk, etc., so I can empathise with you.

It's J. Herbin Supple Wax. The color is "rose."

Which wax do you like best?

I only have two kinds of wax - some really old sticks of the wax that's very brittle when it dries - and two sticks (red and rose, which is really pink) in J. Herbin Supple Wax. Given these two choices, I definitely prefer the Supple Wax because it holds up to the postal machinery.

But I just watched a YouTube video that claims that most of the wax manufacturers are now making their wax flexible so it will suvive the postal machinery. Is this true? I don't know.

Me too, I also like the Herbin Supple Wax.... but I'm not brave enough for the creme brulee torch. I use a candle.

I discovered yesterday that my torch has a flame adjustment thing-a-ma-jig. Imagine that! Turning the flame adjustment to low makes it a lot less scary.

All this talk of creme brulee yet not one good recipe posted yet. :hmm1:

Ooooh! :eureka: Somebody should develop some edible flavored sealing wax - chocolate, raspberry, creme brulee!

Ooooh, edible sealing wax.... I think you're on to something. Weren't Victorian wafer seals made with a flour paste? Just add cocoa, sugar and vanilla :puddle: and I think the letter would stay closed while being delicious. Maybe we'll also need gelatin to get the seals through postal equipment.

did you make it? It looks very nice! Would you know how to make one? What is a good brand for wax? Haha sorry for all the questions, just excited to see this post. wax seals are very classy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
