Akkerman Rood Haags Pluche

Lovesink

Recommended Posts

So here's a quick review on Akkerman Rood Haags Pluche. It literally means Red Plush from The Hague, since our parliament and government can be found in The Hague, the city of Akkerman, and according to the Dutch the seats of those who govern the country are covered with comfortable red plush.

I had trouble with the scan, so I took a photo. The scan really was not an adequate reflection of what can be seen with the eye. The photo is better in terms of colors, but not as sharp and crisp as a scan. Rouge Opéra was the color in my stock that came closest to Rood Haags Pluche.

I'm sure much better reviews can be made, but this had to be a quick job. Enough for an impression I hope.

PS the teeny hint of purple/blue in the Q-tip swabs (especially the one with 3 strokes) disappeared on the photo. But I believe that if you really "push" this ink (how do you put this in English?) it will slightly tip over rather to blues than to yellows.

Thank you very much. So nice to read more about Akkerman inks, having seen them in some of Professor Plume's photos. Extra nice, in fact, because I'm Dutch and the Hague central station is just a 50 minute train ride... I believe they have 30 colours, which may result in a slight problem: which ones to choose ;)

All 30 would put the acquisition of a nice Montblanc WE at risk... which is the pen I'd like to use these inks in...

Lovesink,

that IS a rich, vibrant red and a great review. Red is such a good summer color--a good year round color for that matter. Thank you! Really, I think this Akkerman thread is one of the enduring highlights of the FPN.

"Push" this ink? Do you mean add water to it? Dilute? o_O I'm just guessing.

The above shall not be construed as legal advice under any circumstances

Sorry, this is my lack of nuanced English vocabulary. What I mean is, I am interested if a red shade kind of "leans" towards an other color in the spectrum. If you'd concentrate the ink, like you do when you strike a Q-tip several times, you can see that the bright red may start to change into another shade, like purple (so that's towards blue in the spectrum), orange (so towards yellow), or maybe even brownish. The photo does not show this detail.

Does this help?

I purchased 3 of the different colors, and was delighted at not only the quality of the ink (and the amazing bottle), but the wonderful service of Paul w/Akkerman.

It was so impressed that our New Mexico Pen Club (yes we do exist) placed a volume order for this ink. Most of the colors are just a tad different from the typical color chart.

To date, I have not heard anything but rave reviews. I am so surprised that someone has not picked up on the US dealership for this ink.

At least we in NM are well stocked.....

As part of the NMPCC I ordered a Turquoise and Chinaman Red. I've only opened the Red, so far, it is a bright exquisite red. Works perfectly in my Estie, Sheaffer Tuckie and Edison Mina. More pen trials to follow. It's become my daily user red over MB Love Letters, Noodlers Widow Maker, Diamine Red Dragon, Skript Red and Waterman Red. I like a bright blood red, 1940ish Red Nail Polosh Colour. Akerman works for me. Jim

Jim,

I have to agree.

Instead of the standard, red, blue, green, etc,

It is exciting to see colors that are a little bit 'off'. i.e. a slightly darker blood red instead of the standard color.

One of my Akkermans that is a sort of a lime green just avoids being a 60's type 'cool' color. They put in just enough of a change to mellow it out, and it turns out to be a completely different ink than I was expecting.

Whomever takes on this Line in the states (if possible) will have a gold mine. If the Pilot ink can sell at a premium, then surely this can, especially with the additional volume of ink in each, very unique bottle.

Thanks for this nice review.

One great red! Truly posh and/or plush (no harm meant).

Not too bright like Poppy, not too moderate like Skrip's (Slovenian), not too bloody (Oxblood), not too winey (Syrah) etc etc ... although I do like all of those variations as well.

This ink definitely seems to be closer to the bluer end of the spectrum. Very pretty!

Great review...now I really want this ink, not just the bottle!

I love love love this red, it would be perfect for my proofreading duties.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
