Hitlist Notebook By ABC Press

G'day FPN folks,

This is a very short review of the Hitlist notebook, by ABC Books.

I first saw the Hitlist on a FPN thread here, and asked for a sample copy. It arrived promptly, and in good condition. Here's a photo of the critter in its native habitat.

As you can see, it's a small notebook, just right for a pocket. The card covers are stiff and look hard-wearing. It also has a little notch on the top of the front cover, to hook a pen's clip. Very clever.

But the important question: How is the paper with fountain pens?

All in all, the Hitlist paper works very well. With my Pelikan M215 EF, using Pilot Iroshizuku 'Tsuyu-Kusa', there's no feathering or bleed-through, and it dries quickly (for Pilot). The M205, with a two-tone 14k M nib, had some bleed-through - but so does Clairefontaine (to say nothing of Moleskine). Still, no feathering - for a wet nib with wet ink, this reflects well on the Hitlist. It goes without saying that there was no feathering or bleed-through with Pelikan 4001 blue/black, which is a very dry ink.

Now, this isn't a notebook for me. I prefer lines, and lots of room to write (hence the Clairefontaine). But as a pocket notebook for fountain pen users, the Hitlist is very impressive. A lot of planning and passion went into this, and it shows.

It deserves to sell a bazillion.

Cheers,

A lined or grid template printed out on a piece of paper and placed under the Hitlist Page you write on will solve the Blank paper issue for you. Jim

Good gravy - what a gorgeous native habitat that is!

Thanks, GreenVelvet.

I'll be interested to read your impressions, Kushbaby.

I'm currently trying to figure out what will be the best use of it - I don't want to waste it. Oh, the pressure!!!!!

Hi LDB415,

The website is hitlistbooks.com but it is still under construction. We should be live in around 2 weeks however I have had similar expectations and been wrong. I will let everyone know once it is operational.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
