Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Congrats on the new pen purchase! I certainly can relate to that feeling of owning a new pen. Good to know the nib can be flipped over and written with the other side. Overall, I really like the design of these two tone vintage nibs. These Sheaffer balance pens are hard to find at a bargain price. You're so lucky to receive this pen as a wonderful gift from a friend. All in all, thanks for the pen review.

Nice review of a beautiful pen and such a lovely gift. It seems to have all the virtues of vintage elegance and everyday useability.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
