Omas Purple Resin Paragon

This is my First Review on the Fountain Pen Network.

This review is on the New Omas Arte Italiana Paragon Resin Pen. This pen is due to be released and in production some time after May. A friend of mine was nice enough to allow me to try out the initial sample.

I write with an Omas Fountain Pen daily, so to see this new Paragon was great! It is the first in the family to have Rose Gold trim as compared to the Yellow Gold.

First Impression:

The first thing I noticed about this pen when I picked it up is its weight and solid feel. The base of the Pen where the cap screws onto the body is made of rose gold and not resin providing for a solid feel and weight.

Size:

With Cap Screwed On: 6”

Cap Alone: 2.5”

Pen Body Along: 5”

With Cap Posted: 7.5”

The pen is slightly bigger & heavier than the Montblanc 149.

Nib:

18 kt Solid Rose Gold

Filling System:

Piston Fill

Color:

Iridescent Purple with Rose Gold Trim

Writing:

I used Omas Blue Ink and a Rhodia Lined Pad to test out the writing.

Series:

This pen will be made as a Paragon Fountain Pen, Milord Fountain Pen, Rollerball, Ballpoint and Mechanical Pencil.

My Thoughts:

Being a bigger guy, I prefer a pen that has some sturdiness to it. I prefer the Omas Paragon because it is one of the heavier fountain pens available and with the metal bottom; it has a firm feel in your hand.

My current pen is a Black Resin Paragon with Silver Trim. I have decided to add this pen to my collection and have already Pre-Ordered it, along with its mate, the matching Rollerball.

No affiliation (and all that jazz) but Tora Pens have just begun stocking Omas in the UK - it may be worth contacting them.

very interesting color  thanks for the review

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Pretty fine for a M nib.

Indeed the Paragon HT is very nice in Purple.

I prefer the Paragon HT in Bronze Arco.

I use one of these in (of course) black. Love it, size etc., but the nib is, well, too small for the pen. I think anyway. Holds a bunch of ink mine does, so this is probably no different. This purple color is crazy, I do like it. Thanks for showing us and doing the review.

Oh, I agree with Sascha, it really does write finer than a M, maybe it's just the photo.

I believe the appearance of the writing may be a little deceiving. When looking at the paper in front of me, the text does not appear as thin as in the picture. When I scanned the images, I downsized it to 72 DPI, but since most monitors are 96 DPI or higher, the image actually looks smaller that it should. Here is the sample rescanned and not downsized. It looks a little more true to life now.

I see that this pen is also available with ruthenium plated trim in addition the rose gold plated version. Hard to see though from this picture. Website description says it is Bordeaux?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
