Mb White Forest Le 2009

I'm on an ink review roll! Actually I'm totally copping out and just taking pictures from my ink journal notebook, which is currently only about 28 entries long. But still, the sunlight was nice today so I took advantage of it.

I definitely liked this MB ink, but I'm not sure I'd pick it over Sherwood. The bottle smelled like pine, but once it was in the pen I couldn't really notice the scent anymore, either in the pen nor on the paper.

Used this all during the Christmas season and loved it. Just the tinge of teal makes it really special.

Thanks for the review - makes me glad I already own it!

Nice review, thanks. The closeups are especially useful.

Any chance that you could post a side-by-side image of this ink and the Sherwood green?

I'm going to order some more samples from Goulet Pens later today, so maybe I'll give that one a try too.

Here are the comparison shots I promise. I had forgotten how badly Sherwood smudges. Geez. I think I'll give it away and try to snag a bottle of the quick-dry version.

Thanks! Based on color alone, I prefer Sherwood green. White forest has too much blue for my taste. I'll have to try some of the PR quick-dry inks.

I agree. By itself, White Forest really doesn't give off the impression of being so blue, but when I put it up against Sherwood I completely changed my mind. I definitely prefer Sherwood's colouring.

That is a remarkable comparison with those closeups and side-by-side. They are both good choices though.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I got a couple of bottles of this ink. I opened one of them, nice and clear, no white blobs. Lift the cap off and withing a few mintues the surface had 'filmed' over, no reduction in ink qulity, justa bit off putting, IYKWIM

Quite apart from the smell of WF (which I really like out of the bottle), I was amazed by my own comparison of it with Sherwood Green. Sure, both have some blue in them, WF is even bluer than Sherwood Green. No problem. Biggest problem for me is that WF is practically a maintenance-free green ink, only to be surpassed by Amazon. Sherwood Green is a real dry-outer in the pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
