Im going to be lazy with this review and make it quick, I did however take a bunch of photos though.

I purchased this pen from John Mottishaw back in early December but left for Spain and Portugal shortly after. I didn't receive the pen until I returned to Canada. I Went to the local Canada Post office this morning and the pen had arrived. I also ordered a bottle of Pilot ink in Moonlight Blue, which is a really nice blue-black colour with good shading. The presentation for the pen is quite nice as it should be when purchasing a limited edition. When I ordered the pen over the phone I asked specifically if they had number 14/550 and they did. This specific number also happened to be in the nib size I desired as well so everything worked out nicely for me.

The finish on the pen is quite beautiful and looks much nicer than the photos I've seen online. The jaguar motif is neat but at the same time I do find it to be kind of tacky; like the majority of the Namiki sterling collection. The nib on this one is an inlaid 18k rhodium plated medium nib. Due to it being a Japanese pen the medium point lays down a line more like a fine point nib. The nib is super smooth with a tiny bit of flex. The only problem I've noticed is that the converter seems to exhibit the surface tension issue some C/C's do (you can see this in one of the photos).

Beautiful pen! Have the Pilot Namiki Sterling Dragon, which I had obtained from eBay for quite a good price; and it was unused! It is a fantastic pen with good balance and a hefty weight, but not too heavy. The nib, also a medium like yours, is a joy to use. I totally agree with your description and review of the pen and cannot really add any more to what you have stated. The photos you inserted are great!

Thanks for the review and great pictures, I have a Namiki Sterling on this years list of pens to buy. I haven't come to a sure conclusion on which style I like, but the Mount Fuji looks nice from the pictures I have seen.

 

How is the flexibility of the nib? I have heard others say its got pretty good flex.

As Legal Eagle rightly said there is only a tiny bit of flex; so I would not really classify the nib as having flex, as it will only flex with some considerable pressure on the nib.

Not sure why you bought a pen that you think has tacky features. The Tiger is a symbol of WHAT????Once you know, it's no longer tacky. The imagery looks tough too. The converter thing is no problem at all. A rinse with detergent and it'll go away.Thanks......I

I was able to get the ink to move around a bit by lightly flicking the converter. While the pen is sitting upright in my bag it all settles to the back of the converter and sticks again so I think I may have to give it a good rinse.

As for the tacky features- I like the jaguar image but Im just saying that I can see how others might not like it. I think it looks nicer than if it was simply plain sterling silver, just my opinion though.

I just bought the Sterling-Mount Fuji and can't wait until it gets here!!!!! How often should you clean a converter and the nib? I ordered the Quink ink for it...hopefully won't have sticking issues. I'll add my 2 cents once I get a change to use it.
