Hi there,

Another week has passed, another hand-written review from me:

In the mean time, I figured out how to replace the nibs (thanks to Richard B's wonderfull website!) and the pictures below feature the original (bold) nib.

The writing was done with the Medium nib (Montblanc Blue on Aurora legal pad as from below).

Very nice review. I would love to have that box.

I bought just the pen from Byant and it is one of my daily carry pens. While I normally favor bigger pens, this one just works.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

Interesting review.

I too enjoy the service of Lacouronneducomte. The owner, Dennis, is a nice guy. (no affil etc.)

I got the set about two years ago, from another shop (Akkerman)

The pen was much more expensive then (around €800)

I agree with you on most points in your review. The (medium) nib is quite smooth. It writes comfortably unposted, as I write always.

I dislike the metal section, though. It gives the pen a cheap look, in my opinion. Otherwise, my pens have more "golddust" in them than yours, it sparkles under light, very nice.

The Visconti Parker-size ballpoint-refills are indeed very good, but I have little use for a BP and even less for a rollerball. For writing with gel-pen I always use a cheap but VERY good Pentel-ERGoNoMIX pen, as the pen I offer my often elderly clientèle if they need to write something.

So those 800 euros were a lot of money for a reasonable FP and a very nice box.

In retrospect, I would not buy it had I known what I know now.

Not the Carene, that has an inlaid nib.

more like the 'l Etalon, or the Harley Davidson made by Waterman...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
