J Herbin "les Subtiles" Violette

My review of the last of the five "Les Subtiles" scented inks is up at my blog, Narrative Disorder J Herbin Les Subitles Violette

Short Story: Extremely vibrant (almost violent) purple in colour but PERFECTly Violet in scent - just like the flowers. I probably won't want to use the colour much but you only need a touch of this to give any purple blend a beautiful scent (while it's wet, none of the inks leave a scent on the dry ink.)

Most interesting color you have there. I wish the scents would last a little longer on these. If they did, I might become interested...

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

I agree, even though my whole purpose is the experience while writing, I'd love to find some which leave their scent behind, for writing letters and such. I've heard the De Atramentis ones last a little longer, though I have the coffee and it is neither coffee, nor detectable after drying. I'll keep up the search :)

Yea, I wonder if it is possible to add a scent to any ink. Perhaps buy some candle scent oils and mix them in? unsure.gif I might just have to try it someday (with a cheap pen of course).

While I am rather blaze about blending my inks, I ONLY blend inks that are okay for fountain pens and I'd really not recommend trying your own scents, particularly oils - I can see all sorts of gooey problems! It's easy enough to spray a little perfume or a drop of oil onto a sheet of paper (or slip a swatch of cloth with same on it into the envelope) We girls have been doing that for generations, possibly millennia :)

Love the color.

But, I would specifically NOT buy this ink due to the presence of the scent.

Does it come in "unscented"?

Herbin does a "Violet Pensee" which I've heard is similar, and considering how close the colour of the scented "Ambre" and Ambre de Birmanie are, it's possible that it is the unscented version, but I haven't tried it. I was specifically looking FOR scented inks in this case :)

This ink is easily becoming my favorite color.

See with what large letters I have written you with my own hand. GaVIxi

Ach, ya, this has sorta already been said above...

I already have all of their previous/usual inks (sorry) but the only reason I'd buy this one is when I could in advance prove that that colour itself is like nothing else in their program. The scent (although I do love scents) is secondary, due to its disappearance shortly after drying.

Whew!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
