I have to disagree about the colour; I don't think it's a blueblack, I think it's just a very dark blue with no black in it!That's what makes it special (although I must admit I didn't like it as much as I hoped).

Ditto.

I must admit I did like it as much as I hoped. Majestic Blue is great, but Midnight Blue is even greater (I think). In any case, both are very well behaved.

I have to agree with Mike. I started with Majestic but just couldn't get on with the metallic red overtones and tendancy to smudge under a greasy palm. The Midnight is very similar in colour, saturation and depth to the Majestic but without either of those traits. It also flushes very easily and has become one of my favourite blues. Midnight is, I think, one of Diamine's best inks.

I love this colour but I can't seem to get my hands on a bottle in Australia.

It's certainly not as dark as other blue-blacks I have seen. Blue-grey, perhaps?

I use Diamine Midnight with Private Reserve Velvet Black. The Diamine Midnight helps to quicken the drying time for the PR Velvet Black. I can only tell the blue is there when I flush the nib or dab it on a white napkin. In general when writing with a fine italic Wality nib in a Varuna Vishal eyedropper, it looks like a rich, dark black. I would not consider the Diamine Midnight a blue-black. My favorite blue-black is Noodler's FPH (Fountain Pen Hospital) Ellis Island Blue-Black.

Thanks for the review. I too love this ink. It is one of the faster drying Diamines, especially with a dark pigment. More character than a Blue-Black in my opinion. A nice Blue-Blue.

It's just pure dark blue to me! :) I put it in a pen a couple of days ago and this time I really like it. I didn't get enough shading last time I tried it; this time I'm using it with a stub nib and it looks so much better.

I love this colour but I can't seem to get my hands on a bottle in Australia.

I bought mine from Pen Gallery in Malaysia (www.pengallery.com), they have a fair range of Diamine inks. Freight is a pretty reasonable $11USD via Fedex.

I like it. My only gripe is it is very very easy to smudge, even after its been dry for weeks. a mildly sweaty fingertip, and my notes are smeared. I have stopped using it hence in favour of waterproof/bulletproof inks.

I just received my Diamine Midnight (along with a few others) and I just really love the colour. It's a really dark blue, very nice, and with my Lamy 2000 it lays a very strong line on the page. I have to be careful when I am writing, more with where I place my free hand, because it can smudge easily. So far the best dark blue I have tried.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
