finally the TWSBI is here !

 

read so much about it and the the pictures are so drooling...

 

I have not been writing reviews for a while and so...I'll take this opportunity to start again.

 

 

my humble review :

surprisingly.. it's quite a heavy pen and I like it ! well balanced though it looks longer than the usual fountain pen.

some people have reported skipping issues. has this happened to you??

I don't understand the logic of an 18K gold nib. What does it accomplish, other than costing more money and feeling mooshy?

 

Regarding the pen. . . I really want one of these now. :D

I'd think anybody who wants one with an 18K nib would probably also want to wait for gold tone furniture on the rest of the pen, which I understand to be a possible future project. I think there may also be a titanium colored finish that has been mentioned as being possible.

 

As to why an 18K nib, why do some people (including me :) ) want a bulb filler? Steel is a perfectly functional material, and 14K may offer more benefits than 18K does. 18K appeals to some people, and I think it is probably not just snob appeal. There are a lot of good pens that opt for a 18K nib, and I think some people associate them rightly with that level of quality. I personally would pay more for a good palladium-based nib, but that's because I love the way my PdAg Snorkels and my palladium 8xxx Esterbrook nib writes.

 

Gold does offer superior properties for anybody considering filling this pen with iron gall ink...

it's a dry nib that write smoothly. I've read somewhere about skipping and leaking but it didn't happen on mine .

 

the steel nib also makes it stiffer and there's no sign of flex at all.

i own pens w/steel, octanium, and 14k and 18k. on this pen i think the gold nib would look super cool. that's all..........

 

anyways, great review. i'm super excited for the vac twsbi! i could explain why i prefer vac over piston too, but i'm typing this on my cell :/

When my pen arrives and after I have collected the package I will celebrate the arrival. I may even drink half a litre of beer! Then to decide which ink to fill it with.... man I can't wait...

Thank you for the review. This just adds to my determination to get a TWSBI as soon as possible. And I bet my daughter will want to steal it from me as soon as she sees it. She loves demonstrators.

 

And your handwriting is beautiful.

Great review! I like 14k gold nibs myself! Sometimes they are a bit soft, but when they're stiff you can modify to add flex. I wish they come with 2B or Italic nibs. 14k 2B you can modify to cursive italic, which I love to write with. 2B 14k with a ted of flex are awesome nibs!

Chadden - I don't have a Vista but this is definitely bigger and more solid/well-built, and from what I've gathered from others here, it completely blows the Vista away.

Hi,

 

I used this pen, EF and F nib. Both pen are have the problem skipping. So I refunded. I will not recommend this pen.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
