Nettuno Limited Edition 1911 SE

~ for the French market ~

The 1911 SE made for the French Market is a very rare pen because only 111 of these were built. My favourite dealer Mze. Haza had one for sale with its boxes and papers. I immediately grabbed the opportunity to try it.

1) Appearance

The nice blue gray body makes a whole difference with the full green limited edition made for the Spanish market. The silver sterling overlays are also a definite plus in my book.

2) The Weight

Not too light nor too heavy, this pen is very comperable to a 149. Capped or not, it is a very comfortable pen.

3) The Nib

It is where this pen shines. It is very similar to my Omas Paragon F nib in all aspects. Flex is beautiful ~~~ Very smooth and consistent nib.

4) The Filling System

It is the venerable piston filling system which is known for its great ink capacity and very good reliability. However, I think that the one on the 1911 SE is somewhat fragile. I broke the piston of other 1911 SE limited edition for the Spanish market by screwing it a little too tight. I never had this problem with my MB 149s, my 1000S or with any of my Omas pens.

5) Conclusions

The conclusion is very simple, this pen is a very rare collectible and it is a truly a real limited edition only 111 examples built for the French market. I bought mine at a very reasonable price 300 Euros with box and papers!!! The original price of that rare pen was way above 800 Euros but knowing the craftmanship and the outstanding quality of Nettuno pens that is understandable. Do I recommend this pen? Certainly, especially if you are looking for something not common, rare and original.

Well, I never saw it first time around. To make amends, I have speed typed your review. You have a great pen there, and a crappy, overexposing scanner just like mine :headsmack:

Many folk today cannot read cursive.:roflmho:

Omg, I never knew how true that statement was until my neighbor's 19-year old son had to have the Christmas card I gave him read to him by his mother because I wrote it in cursive.

Back to the pen, I did not see the review back then either. I like the material of the pen, and it looks to be a nice writer. I congratulate you on the great purchase. Do you keep it in rotation and is it still holding up as expected for you?

It is a beautiful pen! In fact, through **that** auction 'site, I put in bids for a couple pens in the past years; however, never so fortunate as to have either enough money or be around for the last second sniping that ultimately 'lost' me the pen (in my second attempt). It is a substantial and well-constructed pen (having been fortunate enough to handle one).

On a separate note, yes, it can be frustrating on here to initiate a new topic or submit photographs and not receive any response. That's why I've become mostly a 'reader' vs. a participant in most topic areas.

My best,

it is sitting in its box. I am so accustomed to sheaffer vac fill balances with their two weeks writing ink capacity that this one stays at home. This pen has a flexible nib but the ink capacity is far less than my vac fill balance reason why it stays at home.

thanks for the review (could read it), saw only now.

could you shed some light on the history of nettuno. (earlier about 2 years back, the nettunos were on sale at joonpens. but now could not be seen.

is it taken over by Aurora.

could you please tell something more on Nettuno's nib - were they manufactured inhouse or contracted?

thanks

the older nettuno nibs and pens were made by delta as surprising as it is, they wrote far better than their delta counteparts

And that vintage Nokia in the pics ... it was the ultimate handset in 2000.

I have two 7110s and they still work

The nettuno is a thing of beauty. I would use it everyday and have only that to write :) And then I would tell to myself "It is too Beautiful, I don't deserve it" (that's the catholic education).

Then my fiancée would become jealous of the pen, and eventually banish me. I would then wander in the snow, mumbling "So beautiful", shivering. Warmed by the precious sight of this rare companion, I would find the strength to survive, and eventually find shelter in a cave...

Eventually people would find me crouching over a pile of bones, caressing a blue pen, blue as the giant iris of my darkness-accustomed eyes... whispering "my precious... my preciouuuusssss...".

Everything is impermanent.

Perhaps it would be happier to be used by someone?

georges, lovely pen. Hope that bug doesn't bite me too.

It is not for sale and neither it is the case for the rest of my other pens. I hunt rare pens so it is out of question that I let them go.

Beautiful. Is it as wide as it appears in the photos? It looks even a bit wider than the 149 you compared it to. Wow...one of 111 !!! I wouldn't want to sell it either--or use it. Did you ever try to get the matching Spanish green version? Love that box and overall package presentation.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
