Chesterfield Ink - Zirchon

Ok, so here goes my first ink review. Received this as a free sample from an order. So far, seems a nice ink. I tried matching the colours the best I could on my monitor (this is one of mine that isn't colour calibrated). YMMV

Oh my--it looks like a very fresh fill of Noodler's Navy. I like.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

Looking at my review from another monitor makes this ink look really turquoise. In reality, its midway between turquoise and lapis...if you can imagine that.

Yes, I did get it from xfountainpens.com (didn't want to make my review look like an advert.)

Reminds me of my Diamine Torquoise, nice review, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

It probably is!! As Chesterfield ink is rebottled Diamine ink! One of my favorite blues, really stands off the page!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! From earlier posts about Chesterfield ink, Zircon/Xircon is Diamine Aqua Blue. Can anyone confirm?

That was from my own comparisons between the swatches on the Diamine site or The writing Desk and those on xfountainpens.com, it could be something else as Diamine has so many blues that have very subtle differences. Since Chesterfield does have an ink named turquoise I would think that would be Diamine turquoise. Taking different screen settings into account, this review does look like the Diamine turquoise I have used, but the OP did say it wasn't as bright as some screens show, so it being another Diamine Blue is possible. Aqua Blue was my best guess at the time, and is equally as bright of a blue, see the review for it in the index!

I compared the OP's scan with Glen Marcus' scan of Diamine WES Kensington Blue, and they appear to be the same ink. It looks to me as if Aqua Blue is not quite as dark as the Zircon/Xircon.

  • 1 year later...

I have a bottle of Chesterfield XIRCON and I use it off and on when I want a real nice blue. It flows well in my pens and is not hard to clean up. It is a little scratchier though than the Quink is, though it still writes nicely!

Wow, looks like a cross between an indigo and turquoise. Very pretty ink with shading. I have been VERY impressed with Chesterfield Capri-beautiful blue with lots of shading for a sane price.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
