Diamine said 'Send in a sample of British Racing Green

I emailed Diamine and ask if they were planning or had what they considered a good British Racing Green substitute. They said I could send in a sample and they'd consider making something similar if they had they had the time, etc. No promise, but I'd really prefer a Diamine replacement, and hope they at least put it in Bespoke line.

I haven't sent the sample yet, I don't know exactly what they want. But I will as soon as I get their requirements.

And if they do put it in production and I get 'naming rights', do any of you have any suggestions? I'd go with Racing Green; the ink is already British or maybe 'Kalamata Olive'. I never thought that BRG really look like my idea of British Racing Green, as least not like what I've seen on cars of that color. But maybe someone else has something better.

Ages ago I sent a vial of Penman Ruby to Diamine at Phil's request. There was talk of the company producing a similar color but nothing came of it. You might want to clarify what they would like these days but a vial would allow them to better analyze the color and other properties of MBRG.

On the Montblanc bottles it just says 'Racing Green' and 'Englishgrun'- the name 'British Racing Green' has just been conflated from these variants and attached to the colour which is especially significant to Jaguar enthusiasts, Jaguar sporting that particular dark grey green variant which we know & love.

So how about 'Brooklands Green', which would cover all permutations of 'British', 'Racing' etc and also add that authentic touch, Brooklands being the world's first motor racing circuit (although until very recently, just a sad bit of weed-infested concrete south of Croydon, which in itself is an intensely romantic place (hard to believe nowadays).

They always looked like a dark purple/maroon to me.

My bad...you are right, the Kalamata are generally black/eggplant/maroon. I need to go by the olive bar at Whole Foods or Central Market and find out which olives are really dark green.

Not to be a cynic, but I find it hard to believe that Diamine doesn't know what their competitor's ink look like. I might buy it if they said that about a tiny mom & pop ink company, but MB?

Jaguar (Racing) Green!!! May need to add the racing part to avoid confusion.

I don't think the name of the Diamine ink should have anything to do with "racing green". The MB racing green looks olive green on the scans, and Diamine really should keep the name "racing green" unused until they decide to make a dark green like the paint on vintage E-types.

I'd vote for "olive green" or something similar. Else this forum will have endless threads on "Why isn't Diamine Racing green a true racing green" similar to the discussions about Diamine Umber. And someone will suspect that the guy inventing the names is seriously colour blind :)

+1

At least partly because it would give me an excuse to say "JAG-yew-ah", like our British brethren (sistren) do.

How do you say it - 'Jag-wah'?

That just seems so odd. Aluminium tomatoes etc. :happyberet:

For the car at least, I think you have to go with the UK version.

What a great idea!

I hope you get a great, positive answer.

Canterbury Green?

Windsor Green?

Hampton Green?

Camberwick Green.

Mornington Crescent.

+1. I wondered about 'Thruxton Green', which covers the racing aspect, but it sounds like something in need of a trip to the doctor for penicillin :)

While we're at it, how about 'Caterham Yellow'? Unreadably bright, prone to engine problems but fast off the nib...
