Diamine Amazing Amethyst

This reviews is also posted on The Dizzy Pen.

This is probably my favorite Diamine ink at the moment, and my favorite dusky purple. I bought this to go with my new Edison Glenmont (review coming later this week) because I thought the color would go perfectly with it. Alas, it does not. This is a bit more blue than my Glenmont. Even still this ink has a very permanent and prominent place in my collection!

The details:

I'd describe this color as a Dusky Bluish-Grey-Purple. It lacks the reddish undertones of Diamine Damson or JH Poussière de Lune.

This ink does not feather or bleed through any paper of average quality.

The flow and lubrication are quite good indeed, and in my opinion, much better than Diamine Damson which I find to be a little less lubricating than I'd like.

The drying time is excellent. Note that my Edison is tuned to about 7 of 10 wetness and yet this ink still was dry to the touch in 7 seconds. Also note that it takes inks longer to dry on this note card than on most other papers I use. Therefore, I can say that this ink should work rather well for a

The shading is absolutely marvelous. This is one of the best shading purples I own.

The only downside for me is that it is not at all water resistant. AT ALL.

Note: This ink is a part of Diamine's Bespoke Ink series. It is only available directly from Diamine and only in the 30ml bottles. I'm hoping that they choose to make it a permanent part of their line up. For myself, I'll be ordering a couple more bottles just to be sure to have enough on hand.

I really like this ink. It reminds me of Noodler's Violet Vote a bit. I'll have to pick some up eventually.

Can anyone help me find this for sale on the interweb somewhere?

You can buy it directly from Diamine, shipping is reasonable. If you buy 3 or more the 30 ml bottles, they will include a free sampler of cartridges.

I received one of the small plastic bottles with this ink - and at once regretted not to have bought the big bottle when I first tried it. I used a flexible dip nib - the thick lines have wonderful shading and hairlines are nearly black, but with a very nice hint of purple. This will certainly be on my next order from Diamine again. The pictures in the reviews don't really do it justice, seems it's one of those colours that cannot be reproduced reliably by scanners and monitors. The picture on the Diamine webpage is completely off.

Thank you for including this link to Diamine. I just ordered 3 inks shipped directly from the UK to Canada and saved $26!

I have Noodler's Le Couleur Royale, but something about it just doesn't do it for me. I think it's just too intense/dark. I also have Iroshizuku Yama-budo which is really nice - but it's much more bordeaux.

This Diamine however, looks really nice! Purple, but easy on the eyes - and a lovely shade.

This ink is usable in office settings IMHO. The purple colour is very subtle and its visibilty depends on the light source. The unitiated might remain unsure about what colour they are actually seing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
