Ink pooling on the top of the nib?

I just received my first Estie and I absolutely love it. It is a black Double Jewel J with an oblique fine nib on it.

I am using PR Tanzanite ink and the whole bottom (toward the writing end of the nib) 1/3 of the nib is covered in ink about 5 minutes after I wipe it off. It's unsightly and I would like to not have it happen.

Is there something I can do? I would rather not have to change ink because I love that.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I had this occur on a Bexley Gemstone pen I have that has been a flawless performer.I saw a post on FPN suggesting this could occur when refilling a pen where the pen and ink had a wide temperature difference. In my case I noticed the ink bottle was cold to touch and the pen/coverter was warm. I waited until next day when both were similar temperature and the problem's not reoccured. Hope this helps.

This seems to be independent of ink-fillings. It happens when the pen has been used for some time and would therefore be pretty close to being out of ink, and also right after I fill it.

Have you tried another ink?

Though I have yet to use it, Tanzanite is famous for being one of the most free flowing inks out there, and is often used by people wanting to turn their dry writers into better flowing pens. So, it could definitely be the ink.

If the ink is pooling at the tip, as in actually having drops form, that could mean there is an issue with the sac. It being either too big for the pen, and thus the heat from your hands would expel the air from the sac(something that can happen when ink is low), or it has a hole in it letting in air that pushes the ink out into the nib.

It sounds like the ink will be the main culprit in this case. Though I know you didn't want that to be the case, experimenting with other inks will provide an answer. You may even be able to find a color similar to Tanzanite that is not as free flowing. Hope this helps!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! If the nib is just forming a thin coat of ink on the bottom third, it is probably a classic case of "nib creep". To cure nib creep, you make the top surface of the nib so ink doesn't want to coat it. Oil from you skin can work. I wax the nib surface. An invisible coat of almost any wax will do: car wax, candle wax. Don't use beeswax on anything brass or copper; it will cause corrosion. DON'T get any wax in the nib's slit or you will have mega feed problems.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
