Pen Case from Japan

This comes from Japanese leather goods brand "Wild Swans". I got this in their Ginza shop.

This is very high quality case. Nice fit for M800 and Optima. I like its size and shape of the end of the case.

It holds and protects pens well but very slim. I found most of hard leather case tend to be very bulky but this one is not.

Different thinner material is used where pen clips are held. Worthwhile checking when you have a chance to visit Tokyo.

Very nice case, one of if not the best quality I've ever seen.

Pricey? It looks pricey.

“I view my fountain pens & inks as an artist might view their brushes and paints.

They flow across paper as a brush to canvas, transforming my thoughts into words and my words into art.

There is nothing else like it; the art of writing and the painting of words!”

That looks amazing (and just from the fact that you got it at Ginza makes me think that the price is through the roof...Ginza's a place in Japan that's known to be very expensive...) I love how there's a different (thinner) material where the pen clips into place. Do they offer it in other colors? :)

  • 4 weeks later...

I found the Wild Swans' website: http://www.wildswans.jp Looking at the contact numbers in the shoplist, they don't seem to have any stockists outside of Japan.

Here is the link to this case direct: http://www.wildswans.jp/03oc/pab.html (approx $150; also available in 3-pen size, it seems, for approx $220)

You could email Wild Swans direct (click the underlined link at the very bottom of the page, or use the Contact Us form) to see if they would ship to you...?

(bensuzuki, I hope you don't mind me jumping in and posting this...)

I really like the thinner material in the clip sections as well... Are there any other makers that do that? I had looked around and hadn't seen one. Frankly, when I'd be looking to purchase one this would still be out of my price range. ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
