Noodler's Manhattan Blue (Art Brown Exclusive)

I started a new rotation of pens this week. While I was inking pens, I decided to handwrite a few mini-reviews on each ink, with swab samples. To save time, I scanned everything, so colors may vary depending on your monitor. I'm limited to posting 600pix wide images here, but click on the image or the link below it to view the full-size scanned image. The full-sized image may give a better, sharper representation of each ink color.

This looks like a lovely color.

I have been reading all of your new reviews with interest. Thanks for posting this one and all of the others. :)

Yeah, thanks for all the reviews, really. I've got all the blue inks you've reviewed except Ellis Island, which I've been thinking about getting, maybe. But even though they're inks I've got, I've still very much enjoyed reading your comments.

Thanks.

I'm really pleased to see the water resistance! Thanks for doing that. This ink is currently in a favorite Pelikan - that blue 605 that was on sale for a while - and I love writing with it, but had hesitated to use it for writing I didn't want to lose in case I'd spill some water or tea on it. Now I don't have to worry!

Sheesh, you'd think I'd've taken the time to do a test, but nooooo, it didn't even dawn on me. I do appreciate you taking the time, though. Very helpful!

Thanks for reviewing this ink! It's one of my favorites.

Yes, I was just going to say that is very similar to Waterman's Blue-Black but fot the fading. Nice color. Maybe a bit more blue and less black than W. BB. Nice review and handwritting sample, by the way. Thanks for posting it.

Greetings,

I am new to the FPN and have enjoyed your reviews and postings. Thanks for going to all that trouble. I have my first FP, a vintage Parker Duofold w/ medium nib, and as a lefty I am looking for an outstanding and professional looking blue for private correspondence that will be a quick drier. May I ask for your suggestions and any links to your previous posts for color comparisons? This Manhattan Blue is interesting as I have also looked at Diamine Prussian and Indigo blues.

Best~Scott

I've been using this as my primary work ink now for about a month. It is a nice rich color almost Peacock blue. Love it. Waterproof characteristic is crucial to a work ink.

Update: I purchased a bottle of this ink yesterday at the Fountain Pen Hospital. The label asserts that it is now 'exclusive' to Fountain Pen Hospital.

So Noodler's Manhattan Blue survived the demise of Art Brown & Sons.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
