Cannelle - L'artisan Pastellier

L'Artisan Pastellier is french ink / calligraphy materials producers. They offer two lines of inks suitable for fountain pens: CALLIFOLIO (inks made for fountain pens, neutral PH and so on) andENCRES CLASSIQUES (not all of them may have perfect properties however I've tried most of them and had no issues in my fountain pens).

L'Artisan Pastellier inks don't get much love or attention here. I understand this as they're not easily obtainable. You may buy them directly from the producer's on-line/stationery boutique. The best thing to do is to organize group buy (I've done it twice last year for polish sountain pen board). It's nice thing to do - you get to meet a lot of people to exchange inks and the shipment cost becomes really friendly.

I must admit I'm huge fan of Callifolio series. They have cool names and some trully unique colors. They're nor super-saturated but I like them this way.

Soon I'll prepare comparison of all 34 colors but it'll take time. Maybe November?

I'll make reviews of some of them.

Cannelle (Cinnamon) is nice brown-yellow sepia. The flow is quite generous and smooth. As in most Callifolio inks lubrication isn't stunning. However I have two pens filled with it, one - Baoer - is quite scratchy, and it feels fine to write with Cannelle (why is it so that frenh names sound so much better than their polish / english translations?)

I love this one, too. I have a bunch of Callifolio inks, and they are among my favorites. I especially love the Violet, Cassis, Sepia, Omi Osun, & Inti. Your reviews really show off these fantastic inks!

Cannelle is one of my Callifolio favourites. At the moment I'm almost out of samples of new inks (well almost = +/- 20 of them) so I come back to different inks I decided to keep and try them in different pens.

Here you'll find scans of Cannelle on two papers:

In this particular pen Cannelle has great flow and it leaves nice and juicy line.

L'artisan Pastellier seem to do this range of colours really well. I feel like I have many more easily obtainable inks to try however before I go down that rabbit hole. Thanks for the review!

Hi,

I don't have Terracota sample any more but here's some written sample (TWSBI 580, stub 1,1, cheap notebook). It's much redder than Cannelle.

Can you compare it with Diamine terracota

That was my initial thought as well. But seeing the written example of Terra Cotta, I would think that Cannelle is perhaps close to Diamine Ochre?

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
