I did a sample on vellum, so the iron gall must have a different effect than on regular paper, because the color I get is really turquoise-y ;) ! On a note card, the color was much more what Amber has above. I think I may finally be seeing the magic of IG inks!

I don't think this is IG - just Turquoise! There is a difference, as I found out when I bought a bottle of what I was told was KWZI IG Turquoise, only to find out there had been a label confusion at the seller's end, and the ink was actually Turquoise...

A nice color, to be sure, but not to be confused with IG Turquoise, which I got later. That really darkens dramatically over time, and it happens pretty quickly.

Could be so. The bottle could be mislabeled, but from writing on other papers, the darkening happens exactly as you say —quickly and dramatically. Just seems that on the translucent, slick vellum, the ink doesn't have the same reaction to the paper fibers. But I may misunderstand the chemical process. I'm a humanist, not a scientist...

Yes, this one is the regular ink, the IG is greener. This turquoise is beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

Well, then, I have been the butt of a cruel joke... ;)

The bottle clearly says "IG" and the others do not.

The invoice clearly had one ink as iron gall. So there must be a mixup somewhere along the line...

Do you have a scan or photo of the ink on other paper? Because in my case, when the ink was mislabeled, Konrad himself explained what had happened, that the labels in the original shipment had all gotten stained and were rendered unreadable, so the person who sold me the ink mistakenly labeled the regular Turquoise ink as being IG Turquoise... and when it did not darken, I wrote Konrad to ask if I were doing something wrong, which is when he told me the complete story.

But in your case, the ink is clearly labeled, and the lettering on the label seems to show some darkening - but your writing sample clearly does not. Maybe it is as you say, dependent on the paper...

OH YES, I forgot about that. It is TOTALLY dependent on the paper. On the vintage (not acid free) paper, the IG inks don't change.

Vellum is not a "real" paper;), and oxidation of iron gall component will be very slow... And even when it occurs it will not affect final color as much as in case of other surfaces :) I have also seen that oxidation on 100% cotton paper takes weeks to show some darkening :)

I have a lot of tape - and I won't hesitate to use it!

Yes Halloween... this is the "magic" to Iron Galls. :wub: :wub:

 

They do react differently depending on the paper. I love playing with Vellum.. like you.... but keep in mind that Vellum is not "real' paper. ;)

 

You can notice that it doesn't darken much on the label... :P ... which again, is not real paper.

HalloweenHJB...I am amazed at the difference in this inks character/color depending on type of paper. You did a wonderful job pointing that out and I had the same "aha" moment you did about the magic of IG inks. I hope to be able to join the next KWZ Ink group buy...I'm gonna have to learn to quit being late to the party.

AmberLea...very impressive KWZ Ink color chart. Thanks for posting it. I kinda like the old fashioned "pharmacy type" bottles the ink comes in...a refreshing change from the "perfume type" bottles that seem to be the rage...and amber glass for protection. Kudos, Konrad!!

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
