Jeb's Custom Lhotse

This is the second review that I have done and this is the

second JEB's Pen that I have reviewed. For those of you

not familiar with JEB's Pens, the pen maker is John Brady

who is one of the easiest people to deal with if you are

considering a custom pen. This is the third pen I have

purchased from John and they seem to get better with

each one. We are so lucky to have so many great builders

at FPN.

Appearance and Design : The pen design was mine and

John finalized the design with a few suggestions. When I

opened the box it shipped in what caught my eye was the

color of the acrylic. The acrylic was supplied by Richard Greenwald

and is called Urushi Red. As for the design, it is very simple.

Construction and Quality : Perfect ... Did I mention that the

finish is superb! All the pieces fit together snuggly and you

can feel that the pen is solid.

Weight and Dimensions : The weight is perfect for me and the

dimensions are just what I ordered. The dimensions are :

Length: Capped = 5.47" / Uncapped = 4.97".
Diameter: .60" (end to end).
Weight (without ink): Capped = 23.5 gms / uncapped = 15.5 gms.

Nib and filling : I had the pen fitted with a Meister Nib, 1.1 Italic. I

love these nibs and this one performed perfectly right out of the box.

It is a typical C/C filler.

Overall conclusion : I have been using it all weekend and I am a very

happy camper. It feels good in the hand and has performed with no

issues. Another solid, well built pen from JEB's Pen's.

Pictures were used with the permission of JEB's Pens. I have no

affiliation with JEB's Pens ... just a happy repeat customer.

I agree 1000%. Jeb is a fantastic artisan and the ultimate go to guy for customer service. I have a Lhoste and Nazca , and PFB in fountain pens. Like the OP, Jeb worked with me to come up with a cigar shaped G2 Refill compatable roller Ball Pen. One of my NMPCC associates had him do a custom design for her , which she's very pleased with. Usual disclaimers apply. Great review and identical to my thoughts and pens from Jeb, Jim

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
