"The Gama Supreme Round Ends (RE)" looks really supreme, Hari ... looks like the Masterpiece and Supreme (RE) were separated at birth ... one became rich in Hyderabad and one remained simple in Chennai ... again, those ripples, maan ... I do think Gem should get the nib permanently changed to No. 10 monotone ... it is a wonderful nib ... it is there on my GS-FE pen, which I received from you, and previously on all my Advocates ... it is a tried and tested nib ... I also wish and hope that Gem keeps the production going ... their earlier GS-FE is a splendid pen too ...

My heart, though, still beats faster whenever I look at the GS-FE ... :P

Thank you so much.

the 71JBD is a slender slim pen when compared to the Gama supreme. HTH.

Good AND cheap? That doesn't make sense! There must be a catch.

Do you know who made the two tone nib? I have a pen with a nib that looks the same and as far as I can recall it is quite nice (although too broad for my taste).

Those Indian hard rubber ripple pens are so beautiful.

Ebonite feeds a real plus.

I liked the flat topped ones.

I'm not into ED pens, unfortunatly.

Thanks for posting another great review and for introducing me to top quality Indian fountain pens here at FPN. The Gama Supreme has a classic, elegant look and I can't wait to add a couple to my collection. The shape and style reminds me of a Hakase pen I have been lusting after for a while and the price can't be beat; even when international shipping is added. It will be interesting to compare these to my Kim & Co. jumbo pen which is a favorite of mine.

Thank you BoBo.

I feel a good feed is a good feed regradless of material(excellence by design), look at the Japanese big three feeders, all plastic but superb performance.

This pen is comparable to your Kim Jumbo. I believe there are other smaller Kim pens floating around, but still being called Jumbo. :)

I feel scared of its ink tank. Burps at 35% to 40% capacity - which is a lot of ink in its king size barrel. But still a feel good FP.

I put my savings to test

Lamy & Pilot FPs the Best

No more I even think of the rest

(Preference Fine and Extra Fine Nibs)

Pen is meant for writing - not for looking :-)

I am somewhat skeptical of ED burp reports under the Indian conditions of uniform ambient heat ambient temperature(25 to 30deg C) being quite close to human body temperature(37deg C). Unless you travel in and out of A/C rooms quite often. I have found that the greasing of section threads is adequate insurance provided the nib and feed are tight fitted to section which is indeed the case with Gama Supreme(across 11 examples so far). I wipe away the castor-rosin compound that Gem applies to the section threads and apply relatively thinner silicone grease (NLGI-2) instead.

Edit: added clarity...

You lighted some shimmer of hope with your "uniform ambient heat" theory - and this time I thought I would be more scientific. I found that excluding the threaded part of barrel, the ink capacity is about 3 ml. So, I filled it with 1 ml of ink, wiped away whatever was there on thread, and applied silicon grease - the results are below:

As I invert to write, and hold the FP for few seconds

The first drop comes out

And the second drop queuing up

I have found that in my FP the burp starts somewhere between 35% to 40% of ink - so thats somewhere around the ink capacity of the long international cartridge.

I think, the feed needs quite an improvement if the FP needs to function at very low levels. Otherwise its a good FP.

The only FP till date that I have found to work till the last drop is the Sheaffer NN (which is not supposed to be used as ED).

and btw, the ambiance at my place is already verging on the cold with jackets and sweaters pulled out :-)

The symptoms in your pen, indicate an air leak. If ink starts dribbling out as soon as you have inverted the pen, it is likely not a thermal issue(since the thermal time constants with the hand as the source of heat will be of the order of 10s of seconds).

Check if the nib and feed are a tight fit in the section.

In case of air leak, it should leak even at 100% capacity

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
