P W Akkerman #7

Here's one I just picked up at Vanness - what a great ink! I didn't see any reviews of this stuff at all, anywhere, so I thought I'd do one. It's the only color on the list that I really wanted to get, and they said it was the first bottle they've sold. :)

Pictures aren't great, but if you have a request, I'll try to get a better shot at a different angle, or with some other ink. Let me know. :)

Updated with a scan to better show off the color - this scan does it too.

And this next picture - comparisons - but using different light settings on the camera - hopefully getting close...

On TWSBI paper - also picked up from Vanness - shows off the shading very nicely. Pics with two light settings on the camera...

Water resistance - WOW. And how easily does it clean out of a pen? Well, the sheet below was used in grinding and tuning a nib into a cursive italic, which took maybe 10 minutes. Once I was done I emptied the rest of the ink back into the bottle, then with the nib under a slowly running tap, cycled the converter 5 times and it was crystal clear. Very nice. Although after a week or so of use I don't know that it would clean out as easily. Maybe, maybe not. :) I've got a pen inked up right now that I'll report on in a week or two.

Paper is that HP laser jet 32 lb stuff. Ran under cold tap for about 20 seconds.

Nice review Shawn

Alas it is a tad too light for my purposes. It must show up well when scanned in black and white.

By the way, all these ink-names are a pun on several typically features or events from the Hague, the city where Akkerman has it's fantastic shop.

The name of this ink means: Queens night blue (The Hague being the residence of the former Queen Beatrix, and the place where our new King Willem Alexander has his working palace, and lives near by....)

Ooh. chalky? Not at all. Hmmm...

I'll take some better pics and a couple scans as well.

The name - I like Queen's Night Blue much better than KoninginneNach Blauw. Easier to say. :)

And it did show up light, too. It's darker than that in person.
Better images on the way.

Thanks!

I'd added this one to my list of proposed purchases from Akkerman when we visit next year. I've just removed the 'question-mark- next to it and put in a 'tick'! Looks a great ink and a super review of it too.

seems to clean out very easily. I still haven't done a water test yet... I guess that's next. :)

Thanks for answering the question I asked and for posting the water tests results. #7 is a sweet looking ink.

This is the best non-IG B/B ink,I've tried! Color, flow, at c., all perfect!

Your produce alone was worth the trip...

I actually like this color. Shades nicely. Can be a bit too dry. Perfect ink for use in Pelikan pens.

I have about 20 mL left, and will order again once I am done.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
