I love this ink, I love its presence, I love its hue and the gorgeous sheen. One can never have too many blues!

Some sheen!

This ink should be renamed Liquid Lapis Lazuli!

Edited to add picture of sheen.

I think this is one of my all-time favourite blue inks. It's permanently in a 101N - just seems to suit the classic design.

Holy wow (yes, that's what just popped into my head). That close up of the word "Presidential" just took my breath away. Now, I've been focusing on buying some of the more outre ink colours, out of a desire to simply have different coloured inks on my written exams (a bit shallow, I know), but this is one blue ink.I am definitely adding to my collection should I get the chance to.

Great penmanship, by the way!

Hello, thank you for your very kind comments and compliments. I had the same reaction too, so you are not alone! As for writing exams with different inks... I did mine with a cloggy, awfully flowing burgundy (oh yes!) many years ago.

I am delighted to say I have found the identical colour in Diamine Syrah, an ink with the most sublime behaviour, colour and flow that is now permanently in the very pen (Harley Davidson by Stypen  ) with which I wrote those 3 hour papers! I am glad you are going to get to try this colour, put in in the wettest pen you have and try it on some good grade paper, then see magic happen! Good luck with the exams by the way - what are you studying?

The close up of "Presidential" really is spectacular. And I love your suggested name - "Liquid Lapis Lazuli". Absolutely fits.

Wow -- what an attractive color! Love the sheen.

And the dry time doesn't seem too bad (PR DC Supershow Blue has great sheen to it, but dries soooo slowly...).

Hmm. Looks like another ink to add to the "must try a sample" list. Which is bad because I have a whole lot of samples I *haven't* tried yet.... :wallbash:

From a distance this looks a lot like my Noodler's Blue, but the close-up shows a cool shading effect that I don't get from the Noodler's.

Glad you liked the close-up - it really is one of those inks that give you goose-bumps. And yes, in the sun the shading etc is like Lapis with the gold flecks - amazing.

I know the feeling Ruth - that list just never gets shorter! I hope you get to try it soon!

Hi! Maybe you can post a sample of your Noodlers here for a comparison? The shading in this ink is lovely.

Thank you for this review. Like everyone else here, I'm absolutely awe-struck by the macro of the word "presidential".

Sorry, I don't really know how to get that all done. The Noodler's blue is elsewhere reviewed and photographed frequently.

My exams are long since over, since summer break here in the Philippines is from March-May. I'm actually just about to start a new term, haha.

Oh, and I'm in my final year of college, majoring in Psychology (BS, not BA), thanks for asking

Well in that case all the very best for the final year. I remember my time studying Psychology. Those are the very exams I wrote in my spluttery ink! Have fun.

I'm old and conservative. I've always considered Visconti Blue to be the Duke of Blues even if it is a bit purpley. When I read this review I got a sample of Presidental and am ordering a bottle ASAP. It's some VERY nice stuff, and my pens usually love Diamine.

Thanks for the review.

Regards,

Herb

  • 3 weeks later...

Very nice review and photos. I'm always on the lookout for great blues - this because ink suppliers seem to change shades so often... mostly after one becomes a favorite. Now, keep a stable of favorites and make adjustments to get the back to the preferred shades.

Thanks again.

Nice penmanship and nice color  thanks for sharing

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
