Callifolio Bleu Ultramarine

I bought all the Callifolio inks a while ago and I've been slowly making my way through them, trying each one of them out. It's just been a long time since I actually took pictures of my ink journal, but given that summer is finally here and the sun comes out to play in Toronto more often, I thought it was time to put a dent in catching up.

This ink is a pretty blue, but honestly, I prefer more saturated inks with "oomph!".

It's got nice shading and an easy-on-the-eyes look, but I felt it was a little too dullsville to get me super excited. I think for someone who likes steady, solid, easy to use and read, slightly washed out blues, this ink will thrill them. When I've got an ink drawer FULL of blue inks, this one doesn't make it to the top of the pile very often.

It looks fine on Rhodia paper and CF paper too, but it lacks any excitement factor.

Especially in comparison to all the amazing blue Kobe inks? this one hasn't been used since I did this review (and I'm updating this just now in October 2013).

Thanks for the review. I am not familiar with the manufacturer.

BTW, what are you using for a pen, nib and paper?

Curious because I typically use an F-XF nib.

L'Artisan Pastellier is the maker. They are extremely reasonably priced - I think I got all 34 tetra paks for about $200 CAD, and each pak has between 50 and 60 mL of ink.

I use a TWSBI with a B nib for all the Callifolio inks, so I can test them in the same pen and really compare them to each other well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
