The Many Faces Of Kosumosu

I just had to share this with you. I love this ink. Here is a picture of the different shades of Iroshizuku´s Kosumosu that popped up on my page when trying this ink in many different pens today.

I have got to put this ink in a pen. I got in a sample recently and this solidifies it. I was worried it would be too light. I'm probably going to wind up with a bottle of this....

If possible, I would highly recommend you trying it in various pens too. It´s just amazing how the colour changes!

I had the same worries as you when I first tried a sample of it, fearing it would be too light.

That is beautiful, gorgeous colour and lovely handwriting. Thank you for the review. I love cherry blossoms!

Wonder how much it will vary in a flex pen

Pretty! Love the look in a medium nib, I'll have to try mine with a thicker line as well.

In B nibs and above, it's dark enough to be one of my daily writers.

While Pink is not my color (at least at this moment) your sample made me smile, thank you. BTW, what pen is a Moongraf?

Yes interesting, indeed!

Good question. I haven´t tried it in a flex pen. The only flex pen I have is loaded with another ink right now, but I´ll keep it in mind!

You´re very welcome. A moongraf pen is an inexpensive pen I got from Poland (my dad was kind enough to buy it for me while he was travelling).

Mind this is a very wet medium. When trying it in my manuscript pen (which has an even wider line), it still remains its lighter coloured properties.

wow that is gorgeous. What pens did you use?

Yes, lovely colour! I have actually written the pens used: the first is a Manuscript (bold nib), the second a Parker 51 (F nib), the third a Moongraf, the fourth a Waterman Expert II. The rest of the scribbling is just me using the same pens all over again.

Thanks for the lift! It has been raining here the past two days. Not pretty rain, glum stuff.

I'm not a pink person but what you show is the way I feel about an ink in the same line, Fuyu-gaki (orange). I keep a pen with it handy at my desk and at crisis moments doodle little smiling suns, thinking yeah, now everything's gonna be alright...!

:-) Hehe, you´re very welcome. Glad to know I´m not the only one doodling away:)

I haven´t actually tried fuyu-gaki - but I´ve been tempted to try it. Might be good to have in store for rainy or gloomy days:)

I'm partisan on anything orange so I'd recommend at least a sample vial of the fuyu-gaki. I don't know that I do anything "useful" with it but I feel like I really need to have it around. I let some pool on a notecard once and I swear I saw a bit of golden metallic sheen separating from the puddle. Very odd.

I'm thinking kosumosu is worth a sample too now. Pink and orange don't go together, or do they? Doodle on!

Actually, pink and orange go together really well. I didn´t know until I tried it out some months ago while writing some notes. If you find a soft, chewing-gum pink along with a soft orange (not too screaming), it actually works:) I was writing notes about a really boring topic - but lo and behold - not boring anymore in pink and orange, lol... got me awake at least:)

I have Yu-yake, which is also an orange, but I think much softer? Is the fuyu-gaki really orange, or more like salmon/persimmons colour? I´m tempted so tempted. Think I´ll try a sample next time I order.

I have heard salmon in reference to fuyu-gaki but really all I see is a straight ahead, uncomplicated red-orange. I imagine yu-yake is a yellow-orange. I've managed to stay away from yu-yake thus far though I don't know how long I can hold out. I decided to try momiji first and I will never be sorry for that.

Then again when someone says salmon I think pink. Also all I use are F, XF, and XXF round nibs so some qualities are not going to be apparent to me. Kinda limited in that way, sad.

I'm still trying to make the pink-orange thing work in mind. Scary but intriguing!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
