Piccadilly Essential Notebook

Recommended Posts

I like these notebooks. They are cheap and I like their features (elastic closure, pockets, ribbon bookmark, etc.) The paper did not feather on any of the ink samples I tried (see below). Only Bay State Blue bled through a little bit on the other side of the page (but not enough to be bothersome to me). The paper is smooth. The only thing I did not like about the paper is it has a wick-like feeling while writing on it, i.e. even my wettest pens felt dry while writing on this paper. I'd love to see these notebooks come in white paper, too. Otherwise, I am very pleased with these notebooks and the price was right.

Dimensions of the large notebook: 10 x 7.5 x 0.75 inches, or 14 1/2 x 10 inches when open (also available in small and medium sizes)

Pages: 240

Paper: Acid-free, yellowish cream color ledger stock paper, smyth-sewn binding, hard cover (available in soft cover, too)

Ruling: Graph ruling is 5 squares to the inch (also available in college ruled and plain)

Extras: Expanding pocket, elastic closure band, and satin ribbon bookmark

Price: Daedalus: $4.98; Piccadilly website: $6.99

Daedalus has them on sale here, in different sizes and line styles.

More details about this paper can be found on the Piccadilly website.

Hello

Thanks for the links and information fiberdrunk.

On Piccadilly's website it states:

"80 GSM wood-free, acid-free"

Definitely sounds worth a try. Great pricing.

Thanks again,

Inked.

Wow:

I've been buying off the Piccadilly website for years, the site you linked is so much cheaper. Thank you for easing my paper budgetary strains. Jim

Thanks a lot! Anyway, How much does it cost to send those to EU from Daedalus? I didn`t find out.

Ok so I have found out. for 4 medium notebooks it is cca $50. Soooo much ... is there some place to buy and ship them cheaper?

Thanks for continuing the conversation about Piccies. The quality of their paper and the notebook builds seems to be all over the map from one shipment to the next and they don't generally get very good press around here. I've got a bunch of the older, pre-Essential units that I pull out every now and then. I was subscribed to Piccadily's newsletter back then and scored a huge discount and free shipping when I bought 24 units. I just have to be careful or the cover can pull right off.

I'm a big Daedalus fan--been ordering books, cds, journals, and notecards from them for years.

It's worth checking their site every so often to see what turns up--search for "journal" or "notebook."

I've also found that it's helpful to get on the mailing list for the catalogs that they send out.

By the way, I too wish that their Piccadilly notebooks came with white paper . . . .

Silly to make something in China, ship it to California and then ship it to EU. The Piccadilly line seems to be a more or less standard production notebook model, manfuctured by many different printers and binderies, that simply has a Piccie logo stamped on it and Piccie packaging. Certainly there must be similar Chinese-made notebooks available in Europe. Please let us know if you find one!

Ok I`ll try to find something, but went through several stationeries but no chance of any kind. I`ll keep looking for it.

If you Google Piccadilly Notebooks, you'll go to their web site. Their old site showed a world map, you clicked on your country of interest, and you could see where to order the notebooks for that country. The new web site shows a STORES entry in the head banner. Clicking on that gives you a list of stores in the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. UK shows a T.K. Maxx store has Piccadilly notebooks. I think this is UK version of our stateside T. J. Maxx stores. Hope this helps, Jim

European...English Black and Red is now using Oxford Optic 90 G.

I really like Oxford Optic. :notworthy1:

Some Oxford Optic is made in England, Germany and Spain.

I have a sheet from Spain, a small booklet from Germany...I live in the wrong part of Germany. If I lived in Frankfurt I could get it in a store there.

Some one was nice enough to send me a whole spiral notebook of Oxford Optic from England....A Large One.

The Red and Black looks to be at least that size in A4, and smaller.

There are a couple of other companies making executive style notebooks with Oxford Optic.

I wasn't paying much attention, in I'm looking for reams or cheaper stapled or sewn A4 booklets.

Try www.my-oxford.com

I have been trying to find where to purchase these journals. Daedalus only has the graph or soft variety, and I would like the lined one. Could anyone point me in the right direction because I can't seem to order them from their website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bets are amazon, Barnes and Noble or Hastings. These are listed:

http://piccadillyinc.com/where-to-buy

If you try:

http://www.piccadillyonline.com/password

you come to a site that implies they will be opening a retail sales outlet soon. dunno.

/daedelus is a remainder liquidator. They sell what they have and they only get what's available. If you're trying to save money, subscribe to B&N's club and wait for a 25-40% couplon to arrive in your email but that could be soon, could be next year.

It looks like Daedalus's selection is dwindling, compared with when I first posted this. There was a ton of options before. Sorry! I'm not sure where you can find them now, except perhaps eBay.

I was at a Home Goods store today and they had a selection of Piccadilly notebooks as well as Eccolo journals along with a variety of unknown (to me) brands of notebooks and journals. The Piccadilly notebooks were super inexpensive, ranging from $1.99-$3.99! I was rather preoccupied with picking out lamps and ended up not getting any notebooks, but I might have to go back this weekend for them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
