Hello,

I recently noticed this pen on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PLATINUM-BALANCE-PGB-3000-59-Blue-Fine-/110533128777?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19bc49b249

It looks nice and is quite cheap. However, I cannot find any reviews or information about it.

Does anyone have it or have information about it before I purchase?

Thank you.

I recently purchased a black one from a different ebay seller. Not a bad pen. Mine initially had flow problems on the upstroke. Cured that by running a 0.004" feeler gauge between the tines. A little toothy. I might try polishing the nib a bit. Snap-on cap. Pretty light-weight, but I may just be used to my metal Haolilai.

Thank you for the input.

Do you think this problem would occur with every (or most) pens of this model, or was it just your individual unit?

I don't know. This is the only one of that model I've ever handled. I bought it because I was impressed with the nibs on the cheap-o Platinum Preppy pens. So I would hope that my experience with the 3000 is not the norm. Can't really say, though.

I've got a green one of these and it wrote beautifully right out of the box (after a quick rinse). I really love the way the nib doesn't feel like a nail to write with - it's not flexy but it feels a tiny bit springy. Mine is very smooth (an F nib) and one of my favourite pens. It's a nice pen to hold as well, even with the cap posted. The converter works well too.

Hope you enjoy yours as much if you get it.

Hi all,

I'm currently deciding between this pen and the Sailor Lecoule. Both pens are on my wish list but I'm wondering which one to get first. :)

The Sailor is locally available, the Platinum Balance has to be ordered from abroad but there's a sale currently running on Engeika (an ebay supplier of Japanese pens) which will effectively bring the price down to -$10 of the Sailor's. Only thing I'll have to worry about is shipping, as I've had the unfortunate experience of a package getting lost in the journey.

I am the girl with the long name, or simply cza

The Goulet Pen Company have a few videos about this pen on their YouTube site. Look under Platinum Cool (What is seems to be sold under in the UK and US). SBRE Brown also reviews a Cool.

I have 2 Platinum Cool/Balance pens each with a different color and nib size. I'm looking to mix and match the nibs and sell one of them but I can not seem to find a way to take the dang nib off. I have pulled, twisted, taped, pushed (?), but nothing is giving. This forum has answered every question one could have about specific fountain pens, has anyone ever done this? Can it be done? Any ideas??? Thank you.

Thank you very much! I followed the video of sbrebrown disassembling the pen but unfortunately when I pulled the feed out the nib did not disconnect from it on one of my two pens. The other pen worked exactly how it should have. I ended up just swapping out both feeds figuring they were similar. Thanks again for the link.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
